Planning on taking this test, and a re-take in January if ever before the redesigned SAT test in March. Anyone else doing this?
@beladon I have the same plan. Unless I do really well on this one. In that case I won’t retake in January.
Idk whether to take the November and January tests or the December/January ones. I guess that all depends on how well prepared I am by November…Anyone thinking of doing December?
@krauser126 Take it in November so you have time to prepare for the January one if you don’t like your score.
@dsi411 That’s a good point Since December scores will be out late December so I won’t have much time to study.
@krauser126 Personally, I feel it’s much wiser and better to take the test in January. Why? You’ll have time to prepare from now until January, and you WILL be aware of the scores that you’re going to receive if you been taking practice tests from now until January. Also, in my opinion, it looks more unique to take the test once, rather than twice or more unless you’re scoring above 2000+. Otherwise, why not prepare for it hardcore now and take it in Jan?
@krauser126 If you feel that you’re highly prepared for November and already know what your score range is, and you’re satisfied with that range, then by all means take it Nov!
@ycphsman Nah I’m not satisfied with my scores as of now but I personally wana get it done for by December. Idk it’ll just be less stressful knowing I can relax over my Christmas break and that would make it better if I ended up getting a really high SAT score when scores release.
@krauser126 @dsi411 What books/resources would you recommend using to prepare for this SAT? This will be my first ever SAT.
@DylanAgema This is my first ever SAT too but I’m using the Blue Book from the College Board (Official SAT Study Guide), mostly because it has 10 practice tests. My sister already had the book so I didn’t need to buy a new one. And then I’m also using the Princeton Review Elite 2400 book. Definitely get the [Blue Book](http://www.amazon.com/Official-Study-Guide-Second-Edition/dp/0874478529) and then you can buy other books as needed if the Blue Book isn’t enough.
@dsi411 Are you using this to additionally study for the new PSAT? How much different is the new format on the PSAT going to be from the practice tests provided in this prep book?
@DylanAgema No, I’m using Khan Academy to study for the new PSAT. The new PSAT is very different than the SAT in the old prep book so you should use the Khan Academy resources to study for it.
Yay, finally, a November thread! How are you guys studying for the SATs?
Hi @Evangelise !
I’m solving the model tests of math sections in the blue book, reading a Jane Austen novel, and studying long word lists for now. School is a hindrance at the moment!
I messed up on October’s SAT so I hope I do well this time. How about you?
@Evangelise I’m just using the Sat blue book. This will be my first ever SAT test.
@BethanyD Haha same here. I feel like I messed up on the math section and the reading. Ugh, hoping to finally stop taking the SAT.
@DylanAgema Ooh, good luck! Are you currently a junior?
What is the hardest section for you guys?
@Evangelise I am using the blue book, the critical reader website, College Board’s website, and Reason Prep’s website! How about you?
The hardest section is far and away math for me! I just need a 620 (which I realize is really bad for most of you!), but I would be thrilled with that.
@highschoolerdana Hi! I am too using the blue book. For math, I am using PWN the SAT (weird name, but INCREDIBLE book. The author runs his own Q&A site for SAT math, just do a little search on tumblr!) I’ve also tried to use Dr.Chung’s but it’s really difficult for me, I can hardly get most of the problems correct. You can raise your score if you practice! You’ll get used to seeing certain problems.
How is the critical reader? Is it helping you improve your CR to 700+?
