***December 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

Adding to the curves,

Writing: 10

Does writing matter? What is considered a top score? I have no idea, I took the ACT on a whim.

When is the next release for scores? I still haven’t gotten my multiple choice yet.

Still waiting for scores here. :frowning:

Still waiting here too.

Where are you from?

I am very worried. My friends who gave the test from the same center got their scores today but I haven’t received my scores yet!

Not time to be worried yet, the tests are scored in random batches and it’s not uncommon for people from the same testing center to get their scores at different times. Nothing to do but wait.

How are you so sure
Because the students from same centre should have received their scores now! (:expressionless:

Just check the ACT twitter and Facebook pages, you’ll see the same response from ACT over and over again. That tests are scored randomly and NOT in a block by testing center. ACT will do nothing for you until after February 3, the last day of the score posting window for the December test. There is no point in worrying about it yet, because you will get nothing but the party line from ACT until after the score posting window closes in February.

I need some advice. I’ve taken 3 ACTs so far and I made 30, 32, and 34 (improving each time). I’ve already deleted he 30 and I’m thinking about deleting the 32 since all my subscores are higher on the Dec test. I know that a 34 is pretty high, but should I retake the Feb ACT if I delete the 32 so colleges won’t think that I’m lazy for just taking the ACT once and not try to improve my score? If this helps, my subs are 35, 34, 34, 32, and I’m a junior.

Thanks!

EDIT: I’m applying the top schools such as Stanford, Yale, Georgetown, etc

@DLithium I do not think you need to retake it, unless you feel like you can improve. If you are happy with your score, I would just focus on the other aspects of your application (essay, teacher recommendations, circulars, etc.) Congrats on a wonderful score!

@DLithium Also, have you taken subject tests for these schools? I know some require them.

@math3matical Thanks for the reply! I think I can score a 35, but my main motivation for retaking is to show colleges that I want to improve my scores (since I might be deleting my 32). I haven’t taken any SAT subject tests since my nearest test center is 70 miles away. I should add that I was on the border of last years PSAT cut off, so I’m waiting to see whether I have to take the SAT or not.

@DLithium If you have the time and money, I say go for it. Put your best effort into everything. Good luck!

@DLithium My only additional advice for you is to really put effort into your essays. You have a great test score, but it will not guarantee admission to top-schools (as you probably know). I would even start working on personal essays now (most colleges use the same or very similar prompts from year-to-year). They are your chance to paint a unique picture of yourself and stand out from thousands of other qualified students.

You have to ask yourself, why should this school accept me (and not some other kiddo with a 34 ACT)?

Finally got my score… 34 composite
