December ACT 2008 Math

.. what were the answer choices for the son/father question? i remember I did it with simple ratios, but i remember not getting exactly 40, and I redid the problem like 3 times. I'm doing it now and I'm getting 40 flat...

Was 30 an answer choice? for some reason I remember getting 32. 40 is the right answer though ...

Answer to Triangle Slope question is (A). -1/2

(This has been confirmed by everyone); think about it.

Since the slope of A to B is -1/2, if you move C parallel to that slope, then the area does not change.

(the base length and the height will stay the same no matter what.)

40 is the correct answer for the father-son triangle.

75/120 = 50/(120-x) ---Solve for "x" the distance between the two and you get the answer.

I am like 90% sure the slope was 0.
Can someone redraw the diagram

^look for SoCaliii post with the coordinates.
The slope would be 0 if AB were // to the x-axis.

^nope
the slope was def not 0. You could easily tell that by the pic.

Also, if u calc the slope between A and B, it is -.5

^If the slope were 0, then C would move horizontally and would thus change the area.

EDIT: lol, you sir just got triple challenged.

Lol, damn. That's -2 then.... That's all I missed I'm sure. -2 = 36 anyone?

I doubt -2 will be 36. I'm not even too sure -1 will be 36. Sure it wasn't an easy test, but it wasn't extremely difficult either. Frankly, I think it's gonna go straight down (as in -1 = 35, -2 = 34, etc)

was the chord radius answer 35 degrees or 55?

what is missing around 10-15 questions? 28?

how come the chord angle is 35?

I don't even remember the chord question. Can someone describe it fully?

^read back a couple of pages

Was there a question that said something lilke..

Not enough data..

I think i got that as one of my answers..

I put not enough data.

But that's only cause I didn't have enough time to actually figure it out.

The answer for that one was 35 degrees. It was an isosceles triangle in a circle with a center angle of 110.

Can someone draw the triangle question with the slope?

Wasn't the third side of the triangle question 44? Because isn't the rule that any two sides of a triangle must add up to be larger than the third side? I remember the two sides added up to be 43, so it had to be bigger than that. Wasn't it 44, not 32?

No. What you said would contradict the rule that you mentioned. Forty-four is incorrect because it is larger than the two sides. Thirty-two is the correct answer.

18, 16, 32 -- works as a triangle because any pair is larger than the third side

18, 16, 44 -- does not work because 18+16 = 34 < 44
