My son received the Canfield BHP Scholarship ($ 13,500 per year/$54,000 for 4-years) today. As OOS, now we have to pay $49,500 per year after this scholarship. I heard that the scholarship holders get in-state tuition at UT-Austin from sophomore year.
Is it true?
My son also got into U-Mich Ross and we have to pay $67,000 per year and no scholarship/grants.
We need to decide between these two great programs. Please advise. Thanks in advance.
If you get in-state tuition rate for UTexas-Austin, then the choice is easy.
Otherwise it may depend upon your personal finances.
UTexas-Austin BHP is a great program, but Michigan-Ross is also outstanding. Therefore, if COA is not a concern, then it is a matter of personal choice.
I think 17k per year is a pretty large amount. Does Ross have an honors program? I believe CBHP is an advantage over regular McCombs, though fairly competitive within. I’d give the edge to UT honors for less money.
Congrats to your son, good luck.
I also received the Canfield BHP Scholarship of $54,000! I was already planning on attending UT CBHP over NYU Stern because I hope to get residency and in-state tuition second year onwards. Now that I received this scholarship, I am saving over $210,000 and paying almost no tuition for my last three years at UT! It is a better offer than I could have every hoped for. Where did you hear that scholarship recipients get in-state tuition after the first year? I would be very interested in looking into that.
Other than that, I think UT CBHP has everything I want out of college: a community, good classes, great employment opportunities, and no debt. When I visited UT’s campus, I really loved the vibe (the pictures absolutely didn’t do justice). I think opportunities out of CBHP are immense and enough for me to get any type of job I want. It is also worth noting that for the last two years of Ross, tuition is about $10k more I believe. Let me know if you want to know more.
I agree that CBHP is the way to go. Classes at Ross are much bigger than at BHP and there is no Honors program. While at UM you do have a great alumni network, you will absolutely have that at UT as well. Gaining internships is no problem and gaining in state tuition even without a scholarship is not an issue either. It is very collaborative as well. It’s too bad the BHP admitted students day was cancelled this year because they do a fantastic job and many students deciding between these two programs really see the differences then. Good luck wherever your son chose.
My son chose to go Ross and accepted the offer. Thank you all for your comments.
@tchit87 Also, no contest re McCombs (even without BHP) over NYU Stern. It’s not even close. Anyone that goes to McCombs can still get a job in NY. NYU is such a scattered campus, unimpressive presentation, not as competitive, etc. We visited and my daughter wrote it off instantly. Liked NY but couldn’t stand anything about the program or terrible presentation they put on.
You saved yourself a lot more than just $ by taking the scholarship and going to UT. Hook 'Em.
