So I applied ASU and U of Arizona a few weeks ago. My applications are under review and I am not sure if I will hear back in time before the May 1 deadline. I got into Oregon but I want to go to ASU or U of A over it. What do i do?

If you don’t hear from ASU or U of AZ in time, pay your deposit at Oregon to hold a space there,. If you do get into ASU and/or U of AZ later on, you can just send a note to Oregon saying “Thanks but no thanks”, and then make a deposit at the place that you do want to attend. Just expect to lose the deposit you paid to Oregon. At this point, it is unlikely that you would be able to get a refund.

I’m a Tucson, AZ native, so I can help you (U of A!).

My UA application only took me 3 or 4 weeks before I received my acceptance letter. I think the application in general is due May 1, so you may or may not hear back before then. You don’t want to risk waiting until after May 1 to decide, so I would accept Oregon’s offer (if you don’t hear back from UA/ASU in time), then if UA or ASU accepts you, accept their offer. Just like happymomof1 said, you might lose your deposit if you switch.

Now, UA or ASU. That’s an ongoing rivalry, particularly in basketball games. UA’s better academically, IMO, but ASU has a good biotech program. Also it’s a matter of whether you prefer Phoenix or Tucson.
