Deciding What Summer Programs for Film Help

Hi everyone I'm currently a junior in high school who is interested in majoring in film in college. I want to attend a summer program for film to help me gain experience in film for when I apply to colleges. I am currently debating whether I should attend the New York Film Academy's 3 week program or attend UCLA's 2 week film program. If anyone has experience at either of these camps, or have been to any other good summer film programs, I'd love to hear your input. Thank you

Hey, I did the 3-week NYFA filmmaking program 2 summers ago in LA (followed by an internship at a movie production company the next summer), and got into USC School of Cinematic Arts this year. I can’t speak for the UCLA program, though I’m sure it’s great too, but the NYFA program was definitely valuable in terms of hands-on work, and from my experience you get a lot of independence socially. Also, the counselors are pretty awesome. NYFA really has a system all worked out. You take classes in a planned schedule, you write/direct/edit your films and then screen them at the end. In 3 weeks you should make 2 short films. And there are trips to different places in the L.A. area, like, I think every evening. It’s a good mix of learning and fun. But I would get the POV of someone who’s done the UCLA one too. Hope this helps.

The Northwestern Cherub program is really well known and is a great honor for those who get in.

Check out some of the info on the visual arts and film majors part of this site!
I’ve got a friend who really enjoyed the USC Summer Program. I don’t know what it is called right now, but this will be his third year going.
