Hi! I've posted here before (over the summer), but I've decided that the best way to make sure film production is the right major for me, I should get actual experience with professors, etc. Of course I've made many films on my own, but that's the thing... it's usually literally by myself, apart from my friends acting.

I would love to go to NYU Tisch's, but its $9000 fee is a little too pricy.

I've been looking at Emerson's and UNC's Cinematic Arts summer program. Interlochen looks great too, but again, pretty expensive.

Does anyone have anything to share bout their experiences at any of these camps/programs? Any help is greatly appreciated. I just want to make sure I'm getting the best experience for my (parent's) money.

Thanks!

My son attended Chapman’s 2 week film camp last summer and loved it. It was about $3500. It was much, much better than the UCLA one he did the year before. He has done many local film camps and classes and volunteers at the local community access tv station. I’m glad that he spent a lot of time doing all that, including making films for film festivals. It has helped him decide not to go into film production but television production. He just got accepted into Chapman for that. It was worth the time and money to explore all that before heading off to college.

marioluigi,
Congratulations to your son for getting accepted to Chapman! That’s great news! Thanks for sharing your son’s experiences on this thread. This will be very helpful to others who are looking into Film and TV programs.

You do not say how old you are but NHSI at Northwestern offers a fabulous film production program only for students between 11th and 12th grade. It is all film all the time including film studies - a perfect way to help you sort out if this is the major for you. It is a competitive application - not sure of when it is due.
