so when does Williams send out the Regular Decision letters? early april? or march 29?

from the Williams website:

"Class of 2010 Admissions Decisions

The Committee on Admission will mail all admission decisions to Regular Decision applicants for the Class of 2010 by April 1st. Admission decisions are not available online."

I'm really happy there is something specific at last... :)

Yeah, its good to hear some concrete information for a change, rather than all the wild speculation that's been going on in these forums.

By April 1st....... Could that mean we could get letters tomorrow?? It is pretty vague don't you think??? ;-)

Well, maybe a little bit, but it sure is a lot better than not knowing any time frame during which you'd be receiving it...I've been anticipating it since the first of the month (I didn't really know much about early writes...if I had, then I wouldn't have been expecting anything).

yeah try ED and getting defffered!!!! I think I am more stressed than my son- he has pretty much written it off. But I still say there is hope!!! I guess by the end of next week you will all know your destiny's!!!! Can't wait to look at all of the posts!!!! Hang in there all!!! Good luck! I am sure glad it isn't me applying to college- Things are way more compteitive than in my day!!!!

yea i was deferred also and i have totally given up hope.. oh well

there are so many other schools out there that fit me just as well if not better

That is good that you have other schools to choose from. What others have you applied to and have you heard from them yet??? Let us know when you get your letter from Williams.

According to an email response yesterday from one of the associate directors of admissions, Williams is snail mailing their decisions tomorrow (Wednesday 3/29!) --- what's left of them given that so many have gone out already (big ED pool plus lots of 'early writes'); so most of us will have our thick or thin envelopes Thursday-Saturday! I was deferred ED and hold out little hope; well, maybe a waitlist... But I've got early writes acceptances from Amherst and Colgate so far; Amherst is looking very, very good right now but hey, if Williams surprises me after all it definitely still has a chance...

Surprising that you received an early write from Amherst but were deferred from Williams E.D. -- I see you were an Intel finalist; did you learn about that after applying E.D.? If so, that might explain it, and if so, that should definitely help your odds at Williams. Although, given how arbitrary the process sometimes seems, one never knows. Good luck, and don't give up. And if you do get accepted, Williams is absolutely tremendous in terms of facilities (science center only five years old), academic support (great school-year and summer research opportunities, working directly with full profs), and grad school placement for science research. It would be a shame to lose you to Amherst!

Wow!! Thanks so much! Looking foward to seeing how many actual RDS go out with acceptances on CC. I am keeping my fingers crossed!!!

Is anyone completely torn between Amherst and Williams?

kmh-- i have applied to many many schools so far i have only heard from 3.. i got into Boston College honors program EA and I got into Hamilton College. I got rejected by Georgetown (Nursing and Health Studies School-- supposedly i didn't have enough extracurrics pointing towards wanting to pursue a career in health studies :-/ ). I am still waiting on many more schools (most are reaches)--Duke, Dartmouth, UVa, Bowdoin, Bucknell, Cornell, and Colgate (although i've gotten a hint that i'm into Colgate)

Have you heard from Colgate?? My son applied there also. Nothing yet?? What is your top school???? We applied to a lot of reach schools also. Hey you have to at least try right??? Sounds like you got some good choices thus far!!! We applied to 8 schools so far have heard from five. Three acceptances, 1 waitlisted and 1 denial. This is crazy huh???? Soo stressful! By the way what was the hint you got about Colgate???? We have heard nothing from them. Sorry aobut Georgetown ;-( Competiton is crazy!!!! Well good luck!!! I wish I could be as laid back aobut this whole process as my s is??? I am the one that is a wreck!!! Strange huh????? I can only imagine what I put my folks through!!! HAHAHA I just want him to go somewhere where he feels is a good fit . So time will tell!!!

I bet its going to be tomorrow...I bet I'll hear from Williams tomorrow.

I'm really scared. Actually, more like terrified.

Gavroche: I'm pretty torn between Amherst and Williams. I got an Early-Write from Amherst and soon after I got into Williams. Tomorrow I should be finding out all of my Ivy League decisions. Worst case scenario: I don't get into a single Ivy League and have Williams and Amherst to feel happy about. And even if I do get into, lets' say Harvard, I'll still consider Williams and Amherst. They're awesome schools. I'm torn between them b/c both of them are appealing to me for both similar and widely different reasons.

Ultimately, it's going to come down to two factors before I make my final decision: a) financial aid offers, and b) campus visits. Hopefully, after visiting and comparing aid offers, I'll know which school is BOTH economically feasible and the best fit for me (i.e. I find a cool vibe, warm/friendly atmosphere, good climate, cool surroundings, awesome resources, etc...).

I suggest my approach to those of you torn between Amherst and Williams (or between any schools - regardless of prestige). It's your future! Don't just go to the school with the "Big name." Visit and find the school with the "big heart".... or the "big wallet"....or some miraculous combination of both!! .....My two cents :) Later.

If you visit Amherst and Williams, you will no longer be torn between them. Amherst has the dumpiest little campus, and we had the worst info session leader there. Williams' campus is beautiful, and my tour guide was awesome.

Yeah but I live in the Amherst area, and I think the town is faaaabulous (and looove the neighboring town Northampton). Williams' campus is gorgeous, but I could see myself bored to tears after three days in Williamstown.

Plus, I love Amherst's open curriculum and would dig being close to my family and taking some courses at Smith and Mt. Holyoke that Williams doesn't offer.

Then again...I love Williams' tutorials and they have better art history.

Hmmm.... lol well thanks shoebacca and gavroche... haha I'm back where I started :D

In any case, I'm going to wait and see where else I get in before I make any final choices. If I happen to get into Harvard, then I am SOOO visiting all 3 Mass. schools (H, A, and W). I'm visiting NYU this weekend as a part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholars Program (they're practically begging me to be a member and offering me a $15k/yr. scholarship as an incentive). Despite all that, I STILL like Amherst and Williams much more! So.... we'll see. Please wish me the best everyone. Good luck to you all as well!! :)

I'm really scared too, i applied RD and haven't heard anything from Williams or Amherst- I feel like I have a better shot at Williams than Amherst but probably won't get into either. Anyway...AndreaMSkate I totally sympathize best of luck to you, post as soon as u hear either way.
