decision letters

You know RedBull... that's a question that I have too, and I really want to know. Anyone have any idea how to find out? US News doesn't carry that info, right?

Haverford does very well in terms of getting into top law/med/business schools... in a study done by the Wall Street Journal, Haverford placed 18th in the nation... behind Wellesley at 15, Penn at 16, and Georgetown at 17, and in front of Bowdoin at 19, Rice at 20, Northwestern at 21, Claremont McKenna at 22, and Middlebury at 23.

while i was waiting in the admissions office for my interview, i also read something that said that haverford has a 99% acceptance into med school. it also listed some med schools to which members of the class of 2003 had been accepted to including harvard, johns hopkins, cornell, columbia, nyu, wash u, upenn, etc

hmm.. what about law school?

According to haveford college video catalog;
"more than 98% of pre-med students are admitted to medical school.
more than 99% of pre-law students are admitted to law school.
graduate school that haverford grads attend are often Harvard, Wharton, Yale, MIT, Princeton etc..."

i met a girl at a party on friday night who was trying to decide between penn and yale med school because she'd recently been accepted to both. (haverford kids are such nerds that we'll talk about school even when we're partying. lol) just a little anecdotal evidence that we're pretty good with grad schools. obviously this doesn't prove anything but i just thought i'd throw that in there.

When I told a family friend who works in admissions for Yale medical school that I was looking at Haverford, he said that they loves looking at apps from Haverford and taking their students because they are always highly qualified.

wow seems like the science department is fantastic. . but what about the rest of it? i'm sure everything's wonderful.. anything else that seems to stand out?

As far as I know, the humanities are also great, particularly political science and economics. I think that Haverford is near the top ten for overall phD production and something like second for political science.

As a Haverford student, I'd have to say our strongest departments our Biology, Physics, English, and History. I wouldn't say we really have any weak departments here, although...I've found that I prefer Bryn Mawr's psychology department to Haverford's.

bjrwrh:
could you post the link to that wsj article you found where haverford was ranked 18th in terms of getting its guys into grad school?

thanks a lot. this list is pretty interesting, although im sure these numbers fluctuate from year to year at smaller schools.

thanks a lot, mycow08! I appreciate it :)

not a problem.

hi

I'd like to torture all of us who are applying this year by bringing to attention this post from last year. Seems haverford sends out its rd letters in mid-late march... likely to do the same this year too?

i'm surprised by the quality of kids who got wait-listed last year... i share nearly identical stats with many of them and it makes me n-e-r-v-o-u-s.

i think we should brace ourselves for another bloodbath.

I agree wok the line, this thread terrifies me a bit. We have an agonizing wait in front of us.
