Hello everyone I am having a very difficult time with this decision. I am getting money from each school and they are all going to cost around the same so money is not an issue. I was between Stern and Villanova (for finance), but now I was just admitted to the honors program at Gabelli, which seems great but I would like to learn more about it and its reputation. Please help!!!

Ultimately, this decision is yours…not even your parents (since money is even all around) and certainly not ours. Its your life and future. However, we can share opinions and of course, we are 99% positive on Fordham and somewhat biased.

I dont trash schools. Period. I will accentuate some differences.

Villanova is a very good school and mostly known for its engineering programs. Its number one in REGIONAL rankings of USNWR- North. Villanova is well known in New York and their grads get jobs there. I dont know how well they are compared to Fordham grads when it comes time to do the hiring.

Fordham Gabelli has a new building and trading floor in Hughes Hall which will be open for business this fall. Its Global Honors is amazing and they have a campus in Beijing. I know people who have gone to Beijing and its a phenomenal experience. Global Honors is a rigorous and demanding program. You are matriculated with Rose Hill kids and live amongst them and take many of the same core requirements, but there is also an option to live in community on certain floors of the dorms with other Global Honors students.

Fordham has an awesome reputation in Manhattan with stellar internships and connections for jobs. IF YOU PERFORM while at Fordham, jobs will be there. Also, Fordham has stellar placement into Law and Graduate programs.

As an undergraduate, I would pick Fordham over Villanova and NYU both. I just think Fordham is stronger in New York than Villanova and you wont be in the shadow of engineers all the time. Plus the new digs at Gabelli (and his 25 million dollar gift to Fordham!)

Stern is an excellent school, clearly. Highly ranked. But NYU is a different experience completely. Its a very large school…huge. Its bureaucratic and not as warm/fuzzy from what I hear. I think Fordham faculty are excellent mentors! Plus at Fordham you have Division I athletics, a gorgeous campus in an eclectic part of the Bronx, and a fabulous Fordham community…like a family.

To me, its a no brainer. But that is me. Not you.

I have long felt that NYU is better for graduate programs and the overall experience for undergraduates is better at a classic campus like Fordham. To some extent its a lifestyle decision: urban Greenwhich Village in a huge school (that is highly ranked), or a leafy green gorgeous campus in a much smaller setting, with athletics and nice dorms, classic college campus…yet in the city and accessible to Manhattan easily on the train.

I hope you pick Fordham/Gabelli Global Honors! Congratulations!

You can’t make a bad choice…

NYU - the highest ranked program by a good margin, NYC location is great for internships/recruiting, large school, no real campus, my son (at Gabelli) didn’t really like the feel of NYU and didn’t apply but has friends who are very happy there. It really depends on what you are looking for in a college.

Villanova - business school is very well respected, bigger time sports esp. with basketball if that is something you like, I never visited the school so can’t offer much in the way of details or first hand opinions but people I know who went there loved the school.

Fordham - Bronx location is also good for internships etc., my S is not in the honors program but it is supposed to be excellent, Hughes hall will open as a business school hub next fall which should be nice (from what I read it will mainly house prof. offices, a trading floor, meeting rooms and some but not nearly all of the b-school classrooms), school has a large liberal arts core curriculum which some people see as a plus and others as a negative. For full disclosure, my S is a senior at Gabelli and has had a great experience at Fordham (wonderful friends, many excellent profs. etc.) and was accepted into a great grad program at a top university.

Good luck whatever you decide. If you can re-visit the schools/attend any accepted students day that may help you to choose. When all else fails, go with your gut feeling.

thank you both of you! if it means anything, those were the best two answers I have received from anyone and they came from the fordham page :)
