Decision Time: Who is coming and who is not? And why?

Please post honest and civil answers why you are going to attend Fordham or why you declined an offer of admission. Best of luck to everyone.

Our son is not attending. I think the torrential rain on our first visit day didn’t put it high on his list from the start. Sometimes it’s hard to see past that. I think ultimately he was lucky - got into all of his schools and really had a hard decision and struggled. Fordham was in the top 4. I wish I could tell you where he is going, but that news will come to us at 9:30 pm today when he arrives home from a track meet. Is our deadline to him. He’s going for finance (I know - could change) and we believe it’s between Boston University and Bentley. Two totally different schools, but we feel either one would be a great choice! To everyone on here, be so proud of yourself, gaining admission to Fordham is so impressive! Enjoy your summer and go make your parents even prouder of you in the fall. Best of luck to all! Be safe!

Our daughter has chosen Fordham Gabelli Business school over BC, BU, and Binghamton Honors program. The Deans scholarship ( About half tuition and R&B ) was a major factor but she fell in love with it. She also received guaranteed transfer to Cornell sophomore year but doubts she will be interested because they will not let her into the business school. All are excited but this is my oldest of 2 daughters and I am a cop with 26 years experience including 3 yrs. NYPD. I will worry no matter what but I was very impressed with the campus, the kids, faculty, and the security. We love the Jesuit education and are truly conservative people. I know from many conversations with parents about the left wing brainwashing that is going at so many colleges, especially, the ivies. The only downside is no lacrosse at Fordham. My daughter has been playing competitively since 1st grade. She will miss it more than she knows. She is hoping to join crew team but no experience.

Welcome to Fordham Jory!

My kid could have gone to other schools and chose Fordham as well (2007). In that decision she was forced to make difficult personal choices about friends and hobbies and interests. But the overriding decision had to do with growth, development and independence. Fr. McShane loves to tell families that Fordham is transformational. It is.

Look for a club level Lacrosse team. Fordham has several club level sports and many kids do that.

Crew takes walkons, but its a rigorous program and they have to get up very very early in the morning. That is easier said than done because of the kids who stay up late studying. Fordham has very few early morning classes.

Gabelli probably has more conservatives than FCRH. But the overall student body is fairly mundane and tolerant…my kid had friends with wildly different political views…still friends today…they bonded for other reasons than politics.

The faculty at Fordham is decidedly liberal. But that is true across the country. At Fordham you can express your views in your papers on topics, so long as you stay on point, answer the question asked, not a question you “prefer” to answer, and can support your position with outstanding scholarship resources. My kid often wrote papers that were not mere regurgitation, but challenging to professors, and was routinely applauded. Often the remarks were, “I dont agree with your position, but your work is extraordinary. A.” Just be sure she stays on point, and supports her position thoroughly. Just bloviating with little support will be met with a rude awakening of poor grades. Professors despise work that isnt superior scholarship, from any vantage point.

Fordham is an academic school. They will challenge you to the max. They often pour on the work for the top students, to prepare them for graduate school. Its important to find time for yourself, your interests, your hobbies…and keep a disciplined schedule.

Stay away from party animals. They are there and somehow get through the admissions process with glowing recommendations and high stats. Party animals seldom get good grades in college. They are nothing but negative karma. Stay away.

Congrats on the scolarship and thank you for your public service.

I’m going because Fordham gave me the most money and it was the best school I had on my list. Trying to negotiate for more money, though - I still have an 18k deficit including indirect costs.
