Decisions '13?

Is anyone good at deciphering what’s going on in MyIthaca? My D auditioned 1/19 on campus. Her “Audition” moved from the “What we still need” column to “What we have” about 5 days after her audition. I have read on previous years’ threads (and heard from people who have called this year) that the “Audition” moves over when the Department has made a decision. Any decision…good or bad. Her major remains MT. For now.

When we were at Ithaca, they told us we would hear in about 3 weeks, but in past years, it looks like everyone on CC heard in March. Did I misunderstand what we were told about when we would hear? Some current students (both boys) told us that they heard 10 days after their January audition last year or the year before.

Am I jumping the gun, or is it possible we will hear soon? Just put me out of my misery…

I spent some time today checking all my son’s applications online to make sure nothing was missing. MyIthaca indicated the audition was missing. I e-mailed the admission office to say he auditioned January 12th, and got a prompt and polite reply that they did have it noted that he auditioned but had not received the audition report from the department. I imagine they will look at all the applicants when this year’s auditions are complete. That seems to be Saturday, February 23rd. (Sigh.)

Monkey, my son’s is still listed as missing also (Acting major, on the Dec. 1 date, as we talked about earlier). Since he already e-mailed–and got the same response that Prodesse describes–we are sitting tight. My notes from audition day say “admissions response comes from admissions office in early March.” We are definitely finding it nerve-wracking!

That’s what I was afraid of. A wait until the end of February or March. It’s so frustrating, knowing that the decision is made, but…we just don’t know what that decision IS. I would like to get put out of my misery. Well, the decision was quick, so it was either really good or really bad. Sigh.

I actually just found out last night I was accepted into Ithaca’s MT program. I’m sure acceptances just come more or less in waves at a time :-)

Alexanico, you didn’t apply early decision, right? Congratulations!

We have an acceptance. : )

Congratulations, Alexanico2013! Are you a boy or a girl? And can you tell us when you auditioned, and whether you found out by mail or some other way? Thanks so much!

alexanico2013 and AdaQuince, congrats!!! If you wouldn’t mind telling those of us sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear … when did you audition and how were you informed of your decision?

Thanks - it helps to know if we should stop hitting refresh a million times in email or just wait for the mail to come :)

monkey13, we were at the Jan 19 auditions also, and during the information session the chair person stated that he was hoping everyone would hear as soon as possible, but definitely by the end of February. I also remember the two boys talking about how they heard in ten days. One of the girls who was taking the kids to their audition rooms said she heard about three weeks after. So I guess it could be . . .anytime . . . hopefully by end of February if we’re lucky? Just wanted you to know I heard the same things!

Thanks, kadieblue, and congrats AdaQuince, to your S!

lol they’ve gotta be early decision… unless they’re gods hahaha

hopefulMT2017, one person I know of who got into MT is a boy, and I believe (but could be wrong?) that AdaQuince’s S is acting, not MT? When we were at Ithaca, 2 boys in the MT program told us they found out the very end of January last year. Girls who were there told us a few found out 3 weeks after their auditions, so the beginning of February. And these were regular decision kids. So, I think they do let some kids, especially boys, know pretty quickly.

They do notify some people (both rejects and admits) fairly quickly. Boys and girls. Others are kept hanging around until the very end at which time some are also admitted and some are not. The best we’ve been able to figure is that it’s basically a process of elimination with some shoe-ins along the way. That’s based on some very talented kids we know who were eventually rejected but not until mid March.

yeah, I have no doubt that they do! but see, that is such a small percentage of people. not saying that can’t be your S or D, just like literally that does not happen very frequently; you have to be a god. they have to have no doubts. they have to want you bad enough, essentially.

Correct. They will take their top picks early. They will also reject many people early. But plenty will still be hanging on and then very quickly are in or out at the end of the process.

^^That was actually the impression we got at the December audition: they said the ED kids would hear in late December, along with a very small number of clear admits or rejects, and everyone else would hear in early March. Seems like there are mixed messages, though.

My experience at Ithaca both with my own kid a while back and with all whom I have observed in years since is along the lines described by Flossy. When my D applied and auditioned in late January, she found out she was admitted about two weeks later in February. She was NOT an ED candidate. Some kids seem to be admitted or denied within a few weeks of auditioning and many are held onto until the end of the audition season and there are admits and denials at that time.

Look at it this way, if after a few weeks of the audition at Ithaca, you have not heard from them, then you are at least still under consideration!

This thread is making me crazy. I was much happier when I figured we’d hear in the middle of March.

Congratulations to those who have their admits from Ithaca, though!

prodesse, NOT hearing yet can still be very positive with Ithaca as they admit many at the end of the process.

Frankly, I prefer colleges that let everyone know one way or another at the SAME time.
