Up untill today, it didn’t show that Ithaca’s admissions office had recieved my audition information. But- now it says this:

Requirement Received Note
Audition Jan 14, 2006 TEST DATE 03-DEC-2005

I get the test date thing- I auditioned on December 3rd.

Does this mean the MT department came to a decision and sent it to the Admissions office? I think it does- but I don’t want to jump to conclusions.

If that DOES mean the department come to a decision, does that mean I should be expecting a decision in the mail soon? Is it normal for them to have decided this early? If it is- is it usually bad, good, or can you just not tell?

I wasn't aware that Ithaca has an online thing you can check as last year, I don't recall that being the case. However, last year, I recall them saying you could find out in a couple weeks or something like that. I know that my daughter found out her acceptance excatly two weeks after the audition. She auditioned at the end of Jan. I recall the day she found out because it was her first BFA acceptance and we were at the Tisch audition. We had just left the Tisch audition (Feb. 12) and she spent the night at NYU and I left to go home to our state. Her dad was home and called her in NYC that a letter had come and she told him to open it while she was on the phone and he did. She got accepted and then called to tell me while I was on a train. That's how I recall the "two weeks". Sometimes you don't forget these sorts of things!

So, yes, the timing sounds normal and I recall them saying a couple weeks, whether you're accepted or not. In other words, if you find out this week, it is not an indication of positive or negative news, but just "news". Good luck to you!
Susan

I also do not know about the online information, but I think the communicating of early Dec. auditions may be different this year. They said on that day that they had a new computer system and that only the ED candidates would be notified in the fall. They said that most people would be in a group of auditioners they hold to consider later, and that no notification would be made until mid-March. If there were people who were very good and accepted immediately, or were not going to work out and needed to be rejected, they would notify them after 1/15 and after they were back from break. I talked to someone in admissions, and they confirmed the timing was changed, at least for early auditions, due to this new computer system. My impression was that people deferred would not receive any sort of letter until March.

the people in the admissions office at IC are usually really really nice. i would suggest just giving them a quick call to put your mind at ease. i'm sure they'd have an answer for you :)

The myIthaca login info for the theatre students appears to be more of a checklist. You're right about it showing requirements and notes. My son called because it never showed he'd actually shown for his November audition. The admissions department was very nice and confirmed knowing he'd auditioned. However, they make no notes about the audition or notes online until a decision has been made on your audition. In fact, other posters in the regular college thread never mentioned seeing decision notes online before getting their letters of academic acceptance in the mail. I imagine nothing shows at myIthaca until they're sure the letters have gone out. It's not unusual to not have heard yet for acceptance into the program. Keep the faith during the wait!

For what it is worth - we just received notification of my d's audition time at unifieds from Ithaca this past friday. It is a 3 hour audition! Fortunately it did not conflict with other audition times. Can anyone shed light on what they will be doing for 3 hours?

NOCCAMom - i hate to say it, but probably waiting around. at my ithaca audition last year (though it was actually AT ithaca college)...i think i waited for four hours. they probably have a lot of kids auditioning and just want to make sure you block off enough time. chances are you won't have to wait that long, depending on when your daughter requested the audition. they call you in the order of who requested auditions first, if that makes sense.

I would recommend you call the school. It seems strange, considering you are talking about the unfieid and Ithaca has no dance piece.

As stated by Sporti, the onsite audition does take up that amount of time, although my daughter was lucky enough to be called first and we were out of Ithaca very quickly. ( I guess we benefitted from signing up early.)

Sarahsmom42 - The string above is from last year at about this time. On another string (the reject thread, I think), I recently posted the below.

Last year from that same Dec. audition as your daughter did, my son did not hear a word from Ithaca until a reject letter on or about April 10. I assume he was effectively deferred, as people from fall auditions got both acceptances and rejects around this time last year. We know several people who received rejects in April, but we know one from a fall audition who was accepted in April. All of the kids we knew who heard in April had long since already decided where they wanted to go (and it was not Ithaca).

This was really bad that they waited so late to get the word out last year. I think she may be effectively deferred (in which case, Ithaca tells you nothing, unlike some schools that will have communication with you about it).

Our son was one who auditioned in Nov and didn't receive his M/T acceptance until well after the April 1 date last year. It was quite a long wait. It's not unusual to not have heard yet. MyIthaca info was not very helpful either except for acknowledging he had applied. He did apply for some scholarships and did receive some mailed notes about them. However, he had received all of his acceptances (including his two favorite schools) well before the Ithaca acceptance, and his mind was already made up. In fact, he'd accepted the offer from his school before hearing from Ithaca. I will say that the scholarship (very generous) and M/T acceptance info came all at once. For your daughter's sake, my own two cents to be added to your probable millions - don't let anybody's actions or lack thereof control your confidence. Your Ithaca audition is complete. Now you can approach any other auditions with as much or even more confidence. This is the part of the puzzle you CAN control. I know it's so difficult. If you ever feel like venting to someone who's been through the process, I'm sure our son would like to hear from you. Let me know and I'll put you in touch. Otherwise, Yes - no news is good news!

Hi, abparent! You knew I was referring to your son! I hope everything is going as great for him as it is for my son this year. Aren't we glad it's someone else going through the process and not us this year?

Quite right, sorry about the posting at the same time. Not that we need to hear about the anxious moments any more than necessary! Yes, our son is thriving, lots of work, but loving it and learning so much! It's good to be past the audition year. Only now, his 12 year old brother says he wants to do the same thing for college! All that we read about Eric and school sounds wonderful, which we knew would be the case. Thanks for staying in touch!

My daughter and several other girls she knows auditioned for Ithaca at a regional audition in November. Of the two girls that she is aware of, one has received an acceptance letter. My daughter and the one other girl she has spoken with have heard nothing. They all three take from the same voice teacher and I their voices are fairly comparable. My daughter has a much stronger theatre background than the other two. The other two girls have exemplary grades and test scores. MyIthaca still shows my daughter needs to audition. We haven't sent in her midyear transcript yet because the school sent the transcript right before the midyear grades came out. Sarah's Mom, I think that if our girls were rejected they would have heard something by now. I wouldn't let the fact that your daughter hasn't heard anything get her down. It sounds like no news is good news at this point.

Thanks for the encouragement. My D had a great performance/audition week and it has boosted her confidence. She auditions at Elon next week and I think that she's in a really good place right now. We're both really looking forward to Elon because we are meeting another CC mom and her D to see a play and have dinner. This has been such a wonderful resource for me over the past few months and I thank all of you who have been so kind and supportive!
