My daughter rec’d the email first, then rec’d the snail mail and her portal changed as well. Hopefully that’s a positive sign…but who knows…

WHAT? Has everyone gotten these e- mails or letters? I never thought I would get into UDel, I have 3.9 but a 1600 SAT which is killing me. But I kind of figured that my sister going there and graduating with honors would have helped me.

The emails and letters you are referring to are not acceptance notices and it is not clear actually how many applicants have been receiving them. With a 3.9 GPA (even with 1600 SAT) I would not assume at all right now that you will not be accepted.

An admissions counselor emailed me this morning telling me that they will be reviewing my application “very soon” and asked me if I wanted to consider an additional major. Looks like they are still making decisions.

namess, i also think you have a good shot of getting accepted to delaware. my daughter, who is a junior had *slightly higher sat scores than you, but not much and she’s a happy blue hen right now. i believe delaware takes a very holistic approach to reviewing applications, and it’s not all about sat/act scores. good luck!

At most colleges, only a fraction of students who will eventually get admitted get a “likely letter”. One other university proposed to get rid of likely letters because they found applicants heard that other people had received them, and everyone panicked because they had not received one.

I did some more extended research about how appliocants were first notified of acceptances last year. It appears some received email first , some first identified their acceptance by Congratulations notice on their MyBlue Hen portal, and some first received notification by snail mail (without either of the first two methods). We will see how it is done this year but it could be a combination of all or any of the above. I would therefore not necessarily assume that once we begin to hear about acceptances that everyone will receive first notification by the same method. It does appear that rejection notices are just sent by snail mail. There was one post that reported one applicant received waitlist offer on their UD portal but everyone else I am aware of that were offered the wait list were notified by mail. Just thought I would share this information with current applicants. Good luck to everyone.

Some additional info from past UD practices. If a student applied to the Honors Program and is accepted into it this will be noted on line in the applicant’s Congratulatory message. Scholarship information can be obtained online if the student goes to their My Blue Hen site after the Congratulatory message and clicks on the “My Award and Financial” icon. Any scholarship awards will be noted here. Again good luck to all applicants.

Thank you for all of your valuable information! Checking portal daily hoping to be an accepted blue hen - also received e-mail “our goal is to notify you soon” and parent booklet…

I recieved an email a few weeks ago, and just got the the “very good news in March” letter in the mail. It seems strange that they would notify both ways.

So our portal message under Decision now reads:Your application is under review. It changed from Official notification via mail to this. Do they post decision on the portal there? Before our Penn State acceptance the portal message changed as well. Just wonderin’ …

I asked this question on U D admissions twitter earlier today and they said notification occurs by mail first. Notifications early to mid March.

Thank you. UD is the last school we are waiting on so if it is mid March I think we’ll start re-visiting our other considerations now. Time seams to be flying except for the UD decision!

We are still awaiting some that don’t come until April 1. Ugh!

My daughter’s portal has the generic post mentioned previously. No email, letter or parent booklet. No change in Decision section.

The email/letter seems to indicate a favorable outcome to the recipients in March. That is just my interpretation. Has anyone asked the admissions office about these emails/letters?
Good luck to everyone!

If you contact the UD Admissions Office by any means (phone, email, twitter) you will be informed that initial acceptances are received by mail. In a manner of speaking this is true as the only “official” notification is by mail. However in the past many applicants, if not most, received “unofficial” acceptance notification earlier from UD via email and/or a Congratulatory message in their MyUD portal. Perhaps this will change this year but I would be surprised if it did.

The emails/letters to applicants since mid-Feb. seem to be something new this year. The extent to which these are being sent out is unclear. It does appear that some of these emails/letters contain wording which appears to “infer” that an applicant will be accepted. However since UD still appears to be in the process of making final decisions I would not assume that because an applicant has not gotten either of them that they will not be accepted. I suspect if one were to contact UD about these communications they would be told my first sentence above. At least this should all be resolved in 1-2 weeks. Good luck to all applicants.

Imply, actually. It’s the recipients who are doing the inferring. ;)

Just wondering…Did anyone’s portal change with a message basically saying to watch your mail for a decision? My daughter’s must have just changed overnight. It looks like they must have started mailing some out?

I just wanted to add …it does also say that they are still reviewing apps as well…so I guess decisions will go out sporadically and not all at once.

This sounds encouraging. I know in past years UD has a pattern of mailing acceptance packets on Friday with a few applicants getting them on Saturday but most not getting them until Monday or Tuesday (or later depending on the speed of US mail). I would begin to check one’s portal as they often in past have sent a Congrats message once they mailed the packet. Maybe they are really starting the process earlier than in past years. We shall see. Good luck to all applicants.
