Final Decision: Fordham Lincoln Center, Acting & Playwriting

Comments: Playwriting and Acting are both very important to my daughter, so the day she received acceptance to both tracks at Fordham was a very happy day. At her Fordham audition, she felt that she connected with the faculty and students. A subsequent day-long class visit confirmed her original impressions. Of all the places she was accepted, Fordham was the school where she felt she would fit in best. We have gotten some flack from well-meaning friends for choosing what they perceived to be a less prestigious program, but I also think that Fordham is terrific.

Process: I think this process is rough on pretty much everyone. My daughter included some extreme-reach schools and was not bothered by those rejections. Only the BU rejection stung because the audition and detailed interview seemed to go so well and she really liked the school. Emerson, Barnard, and Vassar not so much, as she was not really interested in those places and applied mainly in the spirit of casting a wide net.

Reflection: If we had to do it over, I would not have leaned on her to apply to extra LACs. Her admission to Temple, early in the fall, should have been enough of a safety, since it is a good program at a decent price.
