<p>Our daughter is in a great situation; we're very proud of her.
However, she does have a tough choice to make. Any advice?</p>
<p>She has been chosen as a University Fellow with a full tuition+ scholarship at U of Alabama.
She has also received merit scholarships at several othre SE state universities.
She received a merit partial tuition scholarship at Fordham
And she got into Emory, but with little or no aid, which is puzzling given its cost.</p>
<p>She did not get into her top 2 choices, but she has some very nice alternatives. Any similar situations out there?</p>
<p>I would personally recommend Alabama. Fellows program is fantastic from everything I have heard, and nearly free is a hell of a lot cheaper than $50,000 per year.</p>
<p>Fordham is not very much superior to Alabama, and would be inferior to the Fellows progam at Alabama IMO, so a nonsensical choice.</p>
<p>To me, it comes down to Alabama and Emory, and $200,000 is $200,000.</p>
<p>Fordham is very different from UAlabama (and the difference is not limited to expense!). What was it about Fordham that appealed to your D? With the information you've provided UAlabama would appear to be a no-brainer, but the fact that she applied to several significantly different schools suggests that they weren't "all equal" in her mind. Fortunately UAlabama isn't a bad choice, just a safe one! Good luck with the decision process.</p>
<p>Without info regarding your location, your ability to contribute, amount of loans, area of interest, etc. it is difficult to advise in a meaningful way.
One thought, undergrad is a wonderful, finite time period to experience a different area and different peoples. So withinin consideration of what you can pay, suggest your D pick the school and student body which would most broaden her horizons, academically and socially.</p>
