Decision day here too.

Add my D for U of Michigan (Voice Performance.) It was agonizing for her choosing between U of M for Voice and OCU for MT....but we are all very happy with the outcome.

Okies take the lead! Wow. Looks like around a third of the first-year studio has a CC connection. Maybe they should change the name to Oklahoma CCity University! ;)

Caromom and Musicalthtrmom, wow, it's over (or is it just beginning??)! How very exciting for your girls! These positive outcomes are really great to hear about. This board is full of so many talented kids.

Caromom, my daughter's very good friend and summer roommate is going to BU for the BFA in Acting as well. I hope your daughter will meet her. She is from Florida.

Best wishes all.

Thanks so much for organizing by school! WOW, a lot of OCU people!

I'm just a one-time-before-poster, but frequent reader. My son will attend University of Miami (BM for Musical Theater). Best of luck to all!

Kimi311 - Can I ask you a few questions? Is the BM in MT through their Music Dept., and if so, why did your son chose to audition for that school? Does he have more classical training or is he more advanced in theory? I know the curriculums are almost identical and just wondered why one would be chosen over the other. Also, would you happen to know if there are about the same amount of people auditioning for each program? Just curious....

Please add my D to the University of Arizona (BFA-MT). She's excited about joining a group of talented kids there including cato's S!

Lynnm,
I'd be glad to answer your questions about UMiami's BM MT program. You are right in that this curriculum through the Frost School of Music and the BFA curriculum are similar in all core classes. When electives come into play, however, the BM kids would have piano, conducting, music history and theory, as opposed to the BFA kids who would have more theater based electives such as theater history. The BM was perfect for my son, who wanted MT unquestionably, but who also has experience with and passion for choral music, conducting, musical directing, and music theory. In terms of how many audition for each program, I'm not sure. The auditions themselves differ slightly in that the BM kids do one classical piece along with their MT piece, and do not have to dance, and the BFA kids can choose to dance. Both, however, take dance classes throughout the 4 years. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. Kim. I was just curious to see what came into your son's thought process. My D had auditioned for the BFA. She LOVED U of Miami (I'd say more than any other school we went to see.) Unfortunately, her SAT's weren't high enough to even be considered. She has talked about working hard in college to get stellar grades and then possibly re-audition in the future. I just wondered if she should look further into the Frost SOM. When we originally looked into both, I spoke with a few people at Frost and they were extremely helpful and took a lot of time with me, so I'm sure your son will be very happy there.

I'll be attending NYU's Cap21 program in the fall!! :)

As some of you know, my dd was juggling her acceptances for BA Theater Studies and BM Vocal Performance. This was pending her acceptance into the Dance Minor.

She has finally decided on the BM Vocal Performance, for which she received a talent scholarship (along with merit scholarship from the university), and was recently accepted into the Dance Minor. Since she'll be in a BIG theater area, she was advised all acting coaching could be done outside the school, and that there is NO shortage of professional people looking to make extra money by coaching. The Dance Minor is exciting as part of the minor will be to perform in dance ensembles. That, coupled with the music ensembles and private voice, is more than we could have asked for, with a lot of exciting performing opportunities both on and off campus.

So, she's set. Finally.

Also, to those of you who made remarks regarding my dd running into some of the CC students at her chosen university (you know who you are. And I'm fully aware of who Beeze is on the other forum ), all I can say is that if Beeze has enough time with her BFA to look for my dd and actually remember remarks made on this forum, then she isn't busy enough with her studies.

BTW--Congrats to Beeze on a great audition and being accepted into one of her chosen schools. You are well on your way.

Congrats everyone on your decisions...it's curious no one has posted attending Emerson, Otterbein, Hartt, PSU...just wondering

I know that my D told me the other day that PSU has an incoming freshman class of 14 - 7 girls, 7 boys. Don't know if any of them are CC folks, though.

Although we feel like a huge community here on CC, actually we are a drop in the bucket of the numerous students applying to MT programs across the country. Add that to the very small admit numbers at these programs and it makes sense that there would not be posters from every program. For those students who have the delightful position of choosing from several strong programs, many more details can come into play: location, amount of scholarship money offered, etc. Although this IS a great place for incoming students who know they'll be attending a program with a fellow CC buddy to make initial connections with each other! I know it has been a great source for making contacts with other parents as well.

Still deciding between CAP 21, Emerson, and BOCO. I have less than a week...

I have to agree with monkey. There are so many more students out there who do not participate on CC, (or they just read without posting). At our school alone there are many students who will be attending a myriad of colleges that are not posted here.

So tell all your friends to "check us out" so our CC theatre family can grow!!
