omg i live on the east coast..does anyone know how long mail from cali takes to get here? i hate how u can only find out through mail & they won't even tell you through the phone--this means i'll have so many days of worrying about whether i got in or not...

at least the ones where you find out online you don't have that long of a anxiety period...GAHHH!!!!!

....eek i hope i got in. i want to start of my college decisions with some good news =P

Good luck everyone! The EA letters arrived pretty slowly, but that might have been due to Christmas postal service pile up. They sent letters out on a Wednesday (?), and I don't think mine arrived until Tuesday of the next week. It really is variable though; some of my friends from other parts of the state got their letters a day or two before. Just be patient (or pace frantically; patience isn't one of my virtues, so I failed miserably at waiting calmly). All will be fine. Don't worry too much about SAT scores. As long as you showed them that you can handle Caltech in another part of your app, they won't hurt you. :]

My EA letter came that Saturday, and I live in Maine (opposite corner of the country) so I'm just going to start getting excited monday (but if the Christmas theory holds mine could get here tomorrow)

Goldstars what state are you from that took that long to get the letter?

I'm from Texas. My mail carrier was just very, very behind at the end of the Christmas season. My Dallas friends had letters arrive earlier. I ended up being pretty lucky though. I had threatened my parents with death by annoyance if anyone touched the mailbox to look for the letter before I did, but my dad, being himself and cocksure that I was going to get a fat envelope, totally ignored me. It turns out my mail carrier had been just about to put my letter in the wrong box, and my dad saw the Caltech symbol and ran and grabbed it from her. I waived the death penalty when he walked in because I was too busy jumping up and down and screaming. That was a nice day. I hope everyone on here has an equally nice day tomorrow or Monday. Expecting scholarship money or just looking forward to meeting RD classmates, Nick?

I got in :) I'm from California and I got my mail Friday 3/7/08. Pretty hard to believe considering my supplement essays were done in literally 2 days before the deadline :D Now I gotta decide where I'm going to go >_<

But hmmm, I never realized the admit rate was so high for Caltech, unlike similar top-tier schools.

congrats to those who got in. Wo0t! and good luck to those of you waiting. I look forward to meeting some of you during prefrosh. and perhaps I'll be spending the next four years with some unfortunate others :P

btw i got my EA letter on saturday after they mailed it too. (I'm in Ohio and we had about a half a foot of snow the day my letter came). I will have to say that sitting stalking my mail box that week did not really help me in any way. maybe some of you should try doing something to keep your mind off decisions. nethack anyone?

also to address someone's comment on caltech's surprisingly high acceptance rate. i think that although it appears less selective statistically 17% than schools like harvard ~7% getting into caltech is just as hard or maybe even harder b/c of the self selective pool. ppl throw their application to the ivys and other big name schools like MIT and stanford for the heck of it even if they stand no chance. i've heard stories of kids with 17 on the ACT applying to Harvard and the like.

since caltech has less of the wow factor when you say you go there (i've been asked what caltech is, where it is, and why i want to go to a community college).. very few people apply just to say they got in. i think its fair to say that caltech's applicant pool is probably one of the strongest in the nation. so congrats to every one who even managed to apply (their sup. app was a killer!)

also general question. are they sending out scholarship info right now? And will they send EA kids a letter telling us if we got a scholarship or not? Like will we be notified if we didnt get one.. or will we just have to wait forever and continue wondering. (I have a bet with a friend that I won't get one. I'm so impatient. I want to prove him wrong now.. although losing this bet wouldnt be the worst thing that could happen to me)

mjchiu2k I did recieve a Fedex'd merit award notification today. So the
scholarship notifications for EA were overnighted yesterday (Thursday 3/6)
to arrive today 3/7.

hey congrats arwen! thats pretty sweet. aren't their scholarships from like full tuition to like full cost of attendence.. meaning w/e scholarship u get its a good deal? eh, i won't get one, but it doesn't hurt to be hopeful :P

if you don't mind me asking what day are u interviewing for the med scholars? im gonna be there on the 28. will i see you?

aurona: don't quote me on this but i think i read somewhere that axline scholarships are just given out to a certain number of applicants.. and it doesn't matter if they attend or not.. they only give that many. whereas the lingle will be given to someone else if those two ppl don't decide to accept.

wow seeing as I live 5 min from Caltech and haven't gotten anything in the mail yet, it's probably a rejection :( but then again, thin envelopes shoudl deliver fast too

Does anyone know the usual breakdown for the percentages of applicants with acceptance/rejection/waitlist? In particular, I'm wondering what percent of total applicants were given the opportunity to accept a place on the waiting list. Thanks for your time.

Daughter got an acceptance in the mail today - do scholarship notifications come separately? Can we assume no scholarship? She's very excited even though she's never visited Caltech.
