I think it means that they haven't gotten around to making an initial review of your application.

"Further Review Required" probably means that they have made an initial review of the application, but need to take a more in-depth look at it in order to make a good decision.

I wouldn't worry too much about it; it will probably change within the next several days.

ready for review means that they have never looked at it
further review required means that they took one look, realised that there was something missing, and are going to look at it again.
its just a way for them to keep track of if an application has been looked at once yet.

I had "ready for review" this morning and it changed to "further for review" this afternoon. I'm a transfer applicant from a CC with stats:

GPA: 3.92 (hardest courseload)
ACT: 34

And now they are requesting my HS transcripts. I guess that's a good thing (not immediate rejection) but I'm kinda wondering why they need them. I had a 3.3 UW in high school - all honors, AP. Think I'm worrying too much?

that's good to hear then. for transfers it initially said "required documents: college transcript" and I just decided to send in my test scores as well since they're high. I would have sent the HS transcript sooner if I'd known they wanted it - oh well; at least that doesn't automatically mean I'm borderline.

Faculty of Arts: ACCEPTED
SAT: 2010
GPA: B+/A- (we don't do GPA)
Ranking: n/a (we don't do it)
APs: 4 on American History and English
I take 5 APs this year, 2 last year

Congrats. McGill is a great school! Rigorous Academic Envrionment. Good International reputation. And Montreal is a great party city! Drinking age is 18 in Quebec loll :-D

I will add my congratulations. Now....lets have a pool.... how long before some newly admitted student starts the annual questions about the "infamous" frosh week?

Infamous? How so? Are you referring to that "Discover McGill" thing? Sorry, being from California, I'm really out of the loop. Most of the kids here have never even heard of McGill.
So what's so infamous about frosh week?

No, 'Discover McGill' is sponsored by the school. Frosh Week is sponsored by SSMU, the McGill student union***.

As to why its infamous.....basically, there's a lot of drinking during Frosh Week (that's a very bare-bone explanation. Honestly, it's a bit more complicated than that). However, this is also the only time of the year that the authorities are really rough about enforcing Quebec's drinking laws.

My advice: if you are going to attend frosh week, and are under 18 (or don't have ID proof that you are over 18)...either don't drink or make sure you avoid everyone and everything with the letters "SPVM" or "Surete du Quebec" either on them (in the case of cars and buildings) or on their clothing (in the case of persons).

I will let the current students tell you about Frosh Week....parents are not
supposed to know such things ( or at least our kids think we dont!!).

i was underage during frosh.
they're gonna ID, so just find someone in Rez that looks enough like you, and borrow their ID.
i used a fake for the first 2 months of school and it always worked.
or, if you're gonna be underage for a while, invest in a fake ID. certain places around montreal always ID, and its better to have one.

a) I'll be underage until October. Not sure if this is a big deal or what?

b) I still haven't received my decision. Does anyone know of anyone else who got accepted to Arts Legacy? I'm wondering whether that's slowed my application any.

a) There's no problem with regards to McGill or anything academically. You just won't be able to drink (legally) until October.

b) It takes a while, just because of the sheer numbers of people who apply. Just be patient, and it will come in due course. (Though you may also want to check if you were supposed to submit a portfolio or something, given the programme you applied to).
