So since you have to apply for your major does that mean that you might be rejected to the major you applied to Berkeley with? If this is the case I really don’t want to go there…
edit: My major is social welfare btw and it is apparently quite impacted…

@ Victoria: No no. If you’re admitted to L&S for any major, you just apply for your major in the fall. This has nothing to do with your stats or anything. You just fill out a form and have the head of your department sign it. That’s “applying” for the major lol. For social welfare, which I’m considering double majoring in, you’ll just have to have the prereqs done or IP with a 3.2+ when you “apply” for the major in the fall.

Ok because a current student implied that I may not be accepted to my major… and that I may have to settle for sociology or something… which if that is the case I’d rather go to Humboldt…

Nah I’m not sure why they would say that. Cal accepts everyone that applies to L&S into L&S. Then in the fall, you officially “apply” and join your major! Due to this, I’m lucky in that I’ll most likely be able to switch from phil to psych in the fall.

But let’s say because my major is impacted they are only going to allow X number or transfers in… well what if more than X numbers apply in the fall… do I automatically get in?

Yeah, you’ll automatically get in. The thing with impacted majors is that you have to have:

All prereqs done or IP by fall 2010, and you need a minimum of a 3.2 GPA.

As long as you meet both of these requirements, you’re into your impacted major. Trust me, I wouldn’t go to Cal if I couldn’t switch into psych which is also VERY impacted.

Is that major GPA or overall… Seriously I almost had a panic attack lol… I have a A-in soc 101, and B in psych 101 and I take my Stats final tomorrow… i have the 2nd highest grade but unfortunately it is only a 90% I had to double check that would put me over a 3.2…

You’re good :). Overall GPA.

thats not always true. For Econ, they look specifically at your econ prereqs gpa earned during your first semester at cal. Last fall 300 applied and 200 got in.

jetforce, what about for other impacted majors like media studies? if i have all the pre-req’s done would it be easy to declare that major?

I’m considering switching from political econ to regular econ if I get in, but I’m not sure of anything yet. I’ll wait to make that decision when berkeley releases theirs.

Why would Syracuse be willing to let me be an engineer if Berkeley Won’t!? I was just admitted to Syracuse this afternoon, and here’s what the letter says:

“Congratulations on your admission to the combined enrollment program in The College of Arts and Sciences and the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science at Syracuse University for the fall semester, 2010.”

(I put that pretty randomly, because at the time, I was only vaguely considering Engineering).

The only UN-awesome part about that is this:
“To reserve your place in the fall class, please submit the online Admission Acceptance Form (AAF) and any applicable advance payments no later than seven days from the date on this letter.”
