Declaring a major - Econ.

Hey all,

I've got some questions as a soon-to-be second year.
I am considering applying for the econ major, and it says on the department website:

"Students should apply to the major at the beginning of the semester in which they are enrolled in their final prerequisites."

I'll be taking the last of my econ prereqs in the fall, so that would mean I would apply in the fall as well, right? I'm concerned whether this is the smart thing to do. What benefit do I have of applying in the fall as opposed to in the spring like most other people? Should I save a prereq for the spring and apply then? I would like to get involved in campus activities such as clubs more next school year, and I think that would help if I waited another semester before applying.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have around a 3.4, it wouldn’t matter about your ECs.
They only ask you for your GPA.
There is also an optional essay if you have a low GPA.

You get into upper div major classes easier.

Hmm, what if we have less than a 3.4 in the prereqs?

And is getting into upper div major classes easier a big advantage? If we apply in the fall, we won’t find out whether we got accepted into the major or not until spring right?

bump
(10 char)

bump again

You don’t need a 3.4 GPA, that’s just the average. A lot of people simply don’t get in because they fail to meet the minimum GPA requirements. The acceptance rate into the major is like 60%.

Very nice .
