I applied early to UChicago and was deferred. I worked hard to add as much to my application as I could, new teacher rec, awards, etc. and all it got me was a spot on the waitlist. I know it's the policy of some other schools that if you apply early, you can't be waitlisted, but I guess not here, since I've seen many in my same situation. I have a scholarship offer from an in state school, and I am still waiting (with lower expectations now) on a few top tier universities. My options aren't great, but I don't think I want to accept a spot on the waitlist. Am I just being spiteful because Chicago wouldn't give me a decision in either the early or regular admission round?

If you think you would want to go here if you get in, then accept a spot on the waitlist. Otherwise, don't. But it's really not much harm to accept a spot, is it? Even if you're bitter, you should act rationally and not give up on a possibility. You never know what's going to happen, especially this year.

all i can say is...an acceptance is an acceptance...doesn't matter if u were accepted with an likely letter or off the waitlist...in the end, you attend the same classes, have the same professors, live in the same dorms, and have the same diploma...SAME...don't let 2 months of stupid pride ruin 4 years of academic paradise

It seems like you did all the right things with your deferral. Obviously you want to go there if you worked so hard with updating your application. Who knows? Maybe if you keep doing what you did, you'll get accepted. Besides, you have awhile before you have to commit to a school. No senioritus though :)

With the top tier schools removing their Early decision policies and other factors, Chicago might be admitting people from the waitlist once RD people hear from Harvard, etc. . . It's completely possible, just stick with it!!!
