Hello

Is declining offer of admission optional or mandatory?(Before making deposit)

Thank you

If you don't decline a school it will enroll you. Once the school you chose finds out you are enrolled in another school, you will be expelled. The same goes for the school you didn't choose. Don't make that mistake.

....Dude, it's optional.

It's just useful if they have a final answer, though. To make things easier for them.

I can tell you right now --- PLEASE decline offers of admissions if you're not going to enroll. We (schools) will end up enrolling fewer students than we would otherwise because we are holding spots for those admitted students whom we haven't heard from.

So, if not for the school, then for other high school kids everywhere (really!), let schools know if you're not going to take an offer of admissions. Everyone would appreciate it.

Thanks!

You got me!

LOL!

If you haven't sent a deposit by May 1, then the school knows by default, that you're not planning to enroll. However, it is a nice courtesy to let them know you're not coming, and it can also be helpful to them to let them know where you are enrolling instead.

If you have sent a deposit but have changed your mind (for example, you got a waitlist offer after May 1) then by all means let the college know as soon as possible. They may be able to offer your spot to another hopeful student who is on the waitlist.
