<p>I've committed myself by paying the deposit and housing deposit to one college, but I have got offers from several other colleges as well. Is it mandatory to manually decline their offers or can I just refrain from doing anything until May 1st? Would the colleges still assume that I am going to attend if I don't decline their offers?</p>
<p>Colleges assume that if you haven’t replied by May 1 then you aren’t coming. 
It’s always polite to let them know of course.</p>
<p>Declining early helps the college know exactly where they are with regard to yield, and may result in someone on the wait list being offered a spot before May 1st. It is the considerate thing to do.</p>
