No, the only people who got into Wash Seattle with a GPA below 3.0 are athletes and they’re few and far between.
Students in underperforming schools, regardless of ethnicity, have to be in the top 10% of their class to have a shot.

For reference, UW 2017 Common Data Set unweighted GPA of enrolled freshmen:

3.75 to 4.00: 68.37%
3.50 to 3.74: 23.58%
3.25 to 3.49: 5.36%
3.00 to 3.24: 2.06%
Below 3.0: 0.63%

Hi. I got rejected from UW Masters HCDE program. It is my dream school. GPA 3.4 and four years of relevant working experience. I have appealed. What are the chances of the appeal being positive for grad courses?

you can always apply to uw as a transfer. keep going to cc and reapply after you have over 90 credits (make sure you keep your gpa competitive … 3.7+ ideally 3.8+)

In the words of Tinkerbell: “A dream is a wish your heart makes when you’re fast asleep.” That’s what dreams schools are: wishes our heart makes in our sleep. They don’t always make sense and they’re most definitely NOT reality based.

Sure, you can appeal. But my sense of this thread is that it’s not likely to help. I’m sorry about your grandmother; that’s so hard to go through. But realize that most kids endure something very similar during their high school years; many lose parents or siblings. This isn’t going to make for a successful appeal. I sense that it’s your grades that prevented acceptance, and that’s not going to change.

I would suggest, strongly, that you focus your energies on a non-dream school. Where have you been accepted, and what about those schools prompted you to apply in the first place? Or, alternately, where can you still apply and learn to love?

My daughter got rejected from her "dream school’-- an admitted reach-- last fall. She had a one day pity party with lots of tears and ice cream. Then she decided where else to apply, not loving the acceptances she was holding. She has a new, accepted #2 choice, and she’s still waiting for a decision on her new #1. She’s been in the online group chats at both schools and has new friends who will be attending both. When she eventually does hear from that last school, there’s a plan in place. In fact, I was saying yesterday that this weekend we should put down the refundable deposit to #2, to get her a better place on the housing list.

So give up on the “dream school” and start to focus on a school that wants you, a school where your grades put you into the middle of the pack and not on the fringes.

And those group chats are worth their weight in gold! All her new friends are excited about attending those 2 schools, and their enthusiasm is contagious!
