decorating rules?

what are we allowed to put on the walls/ do to the room? like... shelving, screws for hanging?

No nails or screws. There are shelves built into the wall (at least in the old dorms). However, in my dorm we had a few wood slots we could nail into. Most everything you want to put up has to be put up with tape and removable.

You've got to be much more careful in the new dorms... in the old dorms I used packing tape and it didn't cause any problems, but you'd never be able to in a new dorm.
some ideas...
I had a lot of luck with those 3m removable hooks... they even make ones for picture frames. I used the clear square removable 3m poster hanging "stickers" a lot too, they came off the wall and my posters really easily. Also, blue painting masking tape works well, comes off better than regular clear tape.

Old dorms - youll have a room that has white walls - actually everything i painted white except for the wooden table, chair, tile floor, bed, and dresser. You cannot nail into the wal or damage the paint basically. So get creative. People use scotch tape (actually here is a trick - you really can use strong tape because a new product called "Magic Eraser" by that shiy band white guy is sold now that removes tape and mars EASILY ) there are also 6 or 5 white painted wooden bars that run vertical on the wall. They arent much but you can theoretically pin stuff on them. I dont suggest it lest it come back and nip you in the bud. However if you do -*white out fills it in quite nicely - otherwise sily putty etc etc. People go crazy with decorations - just dont put gaping holes into things thats it.

new- ahha this si harder because they are NEW dorms so they will notice anything that is wrong. but i suggest tape and magic eraser (its that white spongey thing and no its not some wierd tv thing ahah its an actual cleaner by Mr. Clean and it WORKS LIKE MADDDD and its cheap!) and definently NO NAILS unless you really want to risk it.

more importantly dont bring too much cause I cna almost gaurantee youll bring half of it home in the end and never touch some of it. Just bring things YOU yourself absolutlty NEED to live --and then freeload off the other people who bring too mcuh stuff. ^_^ staplers tape paperclips ahaha. anyways good luck

why do you need stuff on the wall?

i don't understand why people put posters of punk bands on their ceilings. :)

oooh man... you've seen the campus... you must have been in the dorm rooms...
the old dorms are like cinderblock prison cells! people are way more creative than just the posters... just wait...

i like living in a cinderblock cell. :) it reminds me of home. :P
