Deerfield....

recently i have been getting lots of mail from deerfield (excluding, the thank you for your application mail.) As of now i have recieved letters from the music and math departments with real handwritten signatures. the music dep. said they were very interesed in my music abilites and would like a recording (i am going to send one). the math said they were interesed in my skills and soo on and soo forth....

is it just me or is anyone else getting letter like these????
is this a good sign??????

if, on your application, you noted that your a state ranked celloist and they need a celloist, then that would be likely i think. but if you noted, "i have been playing cello for 7 months in the school band and i like it" when they doin't need a celloist, i don't see personal contact as likely.

also note that there are signature machines which mimic someone's real signature in "real pen" (not printed ink), as programmed by the signer.

To me, I think that's a good sign. =] Is Deerfield your first choice?!

My son got one today from Deerfield about the varsity swimming team (he is a very good swimmer. ) Is this a positive sign?

I think these schools just look at your interests and send you information so you have a deeper glimpse of what their program is like.

Myself, I have been getting mail about Andover's dance program since I am a dancer that applied to that specific school. It's good that they know this kind of information about you, but i don't think it necessarily means you're in.

I've been getting a lot of contact from Choate...I hope that's good :)

Last year our s received the same type of handwritten letters from various faculty and staff at Deerfield. This included notes from the head of admissions, the head of the music department, the interviewer (asst. hockey coach) as well as the student who gave him the tour. Deerfield seems to make a lot of personal contact with applicants regardless of their admit status. Our s did not list any music awards on his application, he simply wrote that he had played the tenor sax in the school concert band for 6 years.

(BTW s was not asking for FA and did not get accepted.)

I wouldn't read too much into the personal notes other than that Deerfield is just a very classy organization and these notes are probably a very traditional response.

this type of propaganda exist commonly...they mean nothing... I received the most stuff from deerfield when i applied...turned out they didnt accept me lol

The only thing I have received from Deerfield is the postcard that says "We have received your application." :D

I've gotten a few letters from Deerfield. St. Paul's was the biggest sender, though. I have about fifteen letters from them for various reasons. One was a mistake that I sent them an email about, though. Back in September, before I'd even sent in my application, they were under the impression that I played ice hockey.

prettyckitty, I got a lot of mail from SPS, too. I think it's because when you fill out the inquiry form it asked what interests you had and stuff, but I did get mail about things I wasn't really interested in.

Hi everyone, im kinda new to CC. but anyways ive only gotten the "we have received your application" letter. Should i worry?
I have been getting lots of stuff from Choate and Hotchkiss though.

@helenmelon: From the accounts I've read on this board over the past month or so, the amount of correspondence varies greatly from school-to-school and even within one school the volume seems to vary from applicant-to-applicant. Plus, from some accounts I've read from parents who've been through this before, there's not necessarily a correlation between pieces of mail received and the admission decision. The important one (before March 10) is the one you received that confirms they've received your application. Try not to sweat it. FWIW...because I know that it always feels better when you're in line to have people behind you...my son has received only a modest amount of mail from Hotchkiss. So if you're getting lots of stuff from them, you can feel good about that! (And why not? Lots of mail can't be a BAD thing, right? What school would be so sadistic as to flood the mailboxes of candidates that are least likely to be accepted?)

While you can feel good about getting mail, I think the gist of what I've read here is that there's no need to feel bad about NOT getting mail. Easier said than done, I know.

Good luck!

EDIT: Oh, and welcome to CC!

Yes, that's what the President does. Same with the manager of a cruise ship I knew. Her assistant would "sign", or stamp, her signature on the paper.
