Okay you Wharton deferrals, how’s everyone holding up? I think the pile of Wharton deferrals shrinks every day as people retract their apps cuz they were accepted somewhere else or simply gave up.

How have you guys been spending the past few months? How were you exams? Any new accomplishments? What have you been doing to increase your chances of acceptance? Did you send in extra letters?

I've expanded my chain of retail stores across the world, and am now taking in over 12 billion in profit each quarter. I have also forged an alliance between the rebels in Congo and the government, saved the whales, white tigers, and brought back the dodo bird by means of cloning. Other than this, not much. Doubt I'll be accepted though.

how the heck are you supposed to achieved great things in just three months worth of time? to me, getting deferred is pretty much the end, because chances are your records or stats will not have improved significantly in a mere 3 months to garner you admissions.

I disagree with you chlor. I was deferred from CAS, not Wharton, but since December I have accomplished a tremendous amount. Firstly, I got a 4.5 GPA first semester, the highest GPA I have ever gotten and it pushes me into the top 10% since this year I am in the top 25 kids. Moreover, I won an award at HMUN in December, then my Mock Trial Team got second in the region, then my IPLE team got second in the state, and finally I got an article published in a small sports magazine and I am writing three more articles for this magazine. So personally I have done a lot to increase my chances and hopefully it will be good news on March 30th.

I read somewhere that Penn has historically accepted about 15% of deferees. It's probably closer to 10% for Wharton. However, remember that the "cream of the crop" were already accepted in the ED round. Bottom line - you may stand a better chance than you might think. Penn still knows you were willing to give it all up for them.

I dunno if I accomplished much, but I did do something in these months...
My ACT composite went up from 33 to 34
Math SAT1 up from 720 to 780
My U.S. History SAT-2 went from a 700 to upper 700s (I hope, i find out tomorrow)
Now I'm VP of Philosophy club (and Secretary in Car Club but i dun think they'd care much)
Have roles in econ related activies (Fed Challenge, Econ Challenge Competition)
Got a supplemental rec from my econ teacher
All A's on midyear report
wrote a supplemental essay about my skateboard equipment resale business
Improved my original essays a lot.
Sent an additional letter explaining that Penn is still my first choice and that I will attend if admitted in the spring.

Granted, in the scheme of things it might not be that much...but just maybe enough to push me over the edge :)

I sent an awesome letter with a nice hook, also I reemphasized my continuing music interests and such, and told them what to expect from me in the future

I did, I called my admissions rep in early January and I have called her three times since then because she told me to call or email her if I had anything to add to my application.
