Deferral Sugestions

I was recently deferred from early decision and I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions on how to improve my chances of being accepted or steps to take from here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I was deferred from Duke University and maybe this can help. I had my sister write a recommendation because she attends Duke, so if you have any siblings or relatives at Wake have them do the same and sent it to the admissions office. Second, I resent them a different essay because I found my original common app essay that they received was not personal enough. Third, I had my volunteer supervisor at the local hospital send a letter of recommendation. Finally, I wrote Duke a cover letter explaining that although I was deferred I am still interested and it is still my first choice. I suggest you do some, if not all of those, for Wake Forest.

Do you have any awards, recommendations, etc. that would help you stand out? Send them in. If you have an updated transcript, send that in too (as long as it will help you). Deferred just means they wanted to wait before making a decision on you, so don’t get too distraught.

If anything, I would send a note that reiterates your desire to attend and will make them remember you.

Best of luck.

As far as awards I won the International DECA competition for international business but I mentioned that in my application. I sent my mid-year grade reports which went up from a 3.89(w) to a 3.99(w) so that should help. I have also contacted the President of the Wake Forest Alumni in my area (Minneapolis) and a family friend Bowman Gray, whose family started Wake, to talk with both of them and hopefully get letters of rec. I am also considering contacting the CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings for a letter of rec as well because I worked with her throughout my DECA project and presented to their executive board. I am also going to write a letter like ohioman2011 said to still inform them that Wake is my first choice and I am very interested.

Thanks for the help!

Crosby 23, If you know a member of the Gray or Reynolds family well enough to speak on your behalf, be sure they send written correspondence to WFU president as well.

I am a nurse practitioner grad from Bowman Gray in the late 70;s-love the school and wish you all the best.

Hey. I was deferred as well. I sent my midyear report and an additional letter of recomendation. I know what the case was for you, but i had very low grades freshman year and have had a strong upward trend since so i made sure to get all A’s in my classes 4 of which were Ap’s (Physics, Calc, Lit, Gov). Hopefully you also submitted a strong mid-year report.

I dont know what the case is for you*

I also sent a cover letter explaining that Wake was still my number one. Hope everything helps. Im so worried about not getting in.
