Deferral Suggestions?

I was recently deferred under Rice's ED and had some questions about the best options to increase my chances in RD. While applying I only sent in an ACT score so I was wondering if it would be smart to take the physics and math SAT IIs and send those in since I'm applying under engineering. I also recently was selected out of 10 Seniors in my church's state diocese for a London Pilgrimage over summer and was wondering if it would be smart to send that in.

I think you would be wise to send in the SAT2 scores if they are high. Maybe retake if they are not. That absolutely would make a big difference for any Engineering program if you have good scores.

Send a letter letting the school know that you still really want to go there, along with the extra materials. Ask your GC for some tips as well. Maybe s/he can contact the admissions officer for your region and get some ideas as to what can be done to increase your RD chances.

What was your ACT score? and breakdown?

As for the pilgrimage thing, what was the selection criteria. Make sure it is relevant to your application. Otherwise, send a letter confirming your interest. Visit if you can as well.

My score was a 34, breakdown E: 34, M: 34, R:33, S: 33. I was just wondering if me taking the SAT subject tests would show any more interest than I already have shown. I’ve already visited (and interviewed), but I have yet to send a letter of continued interest. I plan on sitting down with my counselor after break to talk about the deferral and seeing what she (and I) can do. As for the pilgrimage thing, it was a pretty simple application process. I don’t really think it is relevant to my application, so I’ll probably not mention it.

I don’t think SAT scores show continued interest personally. Your ACT scores are very good already.

Definitely focus on sending a good letter indicating interest, visit Rice if you can and haven’t already and also focus on your other applications.
