Deferrals

Remember, it’s not the end. To be deferred, means your application was almost there. Considering the majority of Early Applicants have big hooks, in no ways our we out of the race. Plus universities defer applicants who they think will likely attend when accepted in RD in order to lock in people who they think won’t. So keep working hard this year, I know I will.

Congrats to the acceptees, My condolences to the rejectees and best of luck to the deferrals.

thanks! i got deferred and your kind words make me feel much better. i've been remotivated to really work much harder and snap out of my senioritis :)
what exactly should we do in order to convince Brown we really want to go? send them more recommmendations? update extracurriculars? I'll probably annoy them so much they'll have to accept me eventually!

I really would like to know if someone got declined. I know most people don't want to admit it, but I'm gettin kinda nervous with all these deferals. What if, in a masterminded plot to mess with our heads, Brown deferred all applicants it did not accept. ...? Scary huh?

yeah. only one person has admitted to rejection. if so many people are deferred it just gets worse. I'm suprised more people weren't admitted though. well i better keep working on the common app, i have applications due thursday!!!!!

this is just what i've heard, so i don't know how true it is, but i heard that most of the ivies don't straight out reject most people...they just defer them. i didn't know this until recently. but they do reject people that are obviously not qualified, but if someone is borderline, they aren't going to reject them, because obviously they're still in consideration. it'd be interesting to see the statistics on how many people are straight out rejected and how many people are deferred.

Let them know immediately that Brown is still your head and shoulders first choice.

beprepn

does anyone know the previous years statistics for deferrals? I am curious how many get an acceptance after a deferral.

Hmm...I thought I had some pretty solid stats (3.8 GPA, 30 ACT, 8 APs by graduation, concurrently enrolled in community college, A LOT of community service), but I was rejected. I'm pretty accepting of it, though, since a lot of you other people are just plain better than me. Good luck!

it seems strange to me that so few people were admitted. only about 6 people on this forum right? that seems like such a low number! usually college confedential has a large number of accepts. look at the dartmouth and columbia boards! it just doesn't make much sense....

not everyone replies

especially people who didn't make it in
maybe the brown board is more honest lol

anyways, it all works out in the end

the brown board has alot fewer kids on it than say, the princeton board.

true. Which leads me to my next point.

Declare war the princeton board.

Well, that makes me feel a little better, rakeon. At least I wasn't rejected. Thanks for the encouraging post :)

I second that

So, does anyone know the stats that Audi asked? What percentage of deferred applicants gain eventual admission?

i was deferred as well and i've been told by my aunt (a college counselor at a private school in Providence) that Brown is one of the few ivies that does not defer as a "sympathy no"- they really mean it when they say they want more time to review your application and they're not just going to toss it come january. so don't assume anything.

at my school 7/8 deffered and one still pending...of course some could be rejected and state that they were deferred but it seems as though they deffered almost everyone...and rejected very few....there was a new dean...so do you think it still holds true that a defferal means you are truly considered

in our school 5/6 deferred, 1 accepted. I was told that the Ivies generally do defer. They figure students would still want to be in the pool of potential applicants, after review of the RD applicants. I don't know what the statistics are for those accepted after being deferred. Does anyone know?? But, in general I was told that there are very few rejections at this point-alot of deferrals.

guys, my honest opinion: don't assume anything yet! you might as well get in, you might as well not. It all depends upon others right now....well.... maybe a little on you too. but knowing figures won't help you.... you just sound like my mom right after I found out.

the main idea now is to complete your other RD apps and keep faith. anything can happen ;)

good luck to you all! [and especially to me :D]

Based on what I have heard so far, Brown accepted an unusually low percentage ED from private schools in my locale (urban, east coast). As I hear more, I will post.
