Deferred...am i screwwed?

I just got my letter of deferal from UVA. My Stats are: 1360 sat/ 3.9 Gpa/ class president (2 years) etc. Is all hope lost? Is it true that they put my application at the bottom of the pool? and I couldn't find it but, what is the likelihood of me being accepted after being deferred? (couldnt find the percentage from last years class) feeling super depressed...

are you out of state?

i heard that if you send additional letter of rec or additional stats about yourself it will help... dont know for sure though..

im in state

You ought to schedule an interview if you haven't already.

All of these suggestions are great.

Like the poster above already said, schedule an interview if you haven't already, send in clippings or info of any new accomplishments, an extra letter of rec, etc, etc. Any of these suggestions will help your chances a bit!

Thank you. Those are good ideas, however, i didn't know that you could schedule interviews for Uva.

maybe not just extra letters of recommendation but drop them a note thanking them for their consideration and that you remain very interested in attending and would accept the offer of admission if extended. also say what youve been up to and whats new in your life

how the hell were you deferred instate with those great stats?????

neelesh you read my mind.

Thanks guys, don't know what happened but I still cant find the acceptance rate for ED and how many deferals get accepted RD.

oh.. the 3.9 is weighted gpa.... unweighted its 3.5 just to specifiy

even at 3.5, your stats are still good and provided the rest of your application was good, id like to know why they passed over u

send them an updated list of awards/ECs

the 3.5 unweighted is too low.

I'd put your chances at less than 5%. They don't really care about what classes you take.

<--- deferred then rejected last year with a 3.55ish (along with many others, i'm from NOVA)

Your 7th semester grades will be considered RD - if you can ace those - and you continue to show interest and all that, you probably do have a shot. UVA is a lot more grade-centric than other equally good schools, so try not to be too down about it all.

well you prolly made the first cut thanks to being class prez. but can you bring up that SAT any?

Yes it is true that your app gets read last after being deferred ED. If you're in the top 10% of your class I'd say you've got a good shot at RD otherwise I'd say your chances are slim. I know that two years ago it wasn't really a big deal to get deferred because they only rejected about 300 people out of all who applied ED and then deferred a bunch. By the way, UVA does not use interviews for admissions. Good luck!

Yes, it is extremely important to get your rank into the top 10%. Once you have that, your chances are greatly increased.

my school is private and our class size is 56 so we dont really do class rank... top 10% would be only about 6 students
