Any fellow die-hard Pomona lovers who have also been deferred? Are you sending a letter of continued interest or any additional recs/ other supplements? Let's discuss how to fight our way into our dream school! :)

I was not deferred, but I understand your pain. If I were in your shoes I would definitely send them updates on any honors, activities, or higher test scores. I would also sign up for the January test date just to give it one more shot. I am really sorry you have to go through this. Also, I would submit an arts or science supplement to highlight your talent if you have not already done so. Sign up for an interview if you have not yet had one. Best of luck!

For those who are deferred, definitely remain in communication with Pomona. If you receive an award/honor or have a special achievement, do send that information to the admissions office. Also, if you look at last year’s posts, you’ll find that quite a few of those who were deferred, were admitted.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice, all. Currently what I have in mind is: a letter from my counselor, a letter of continued interest, a supplemental letter of recommendation (from an activities supervisor?) and my senior year semester 1 transcript grades (which I have not received yet but I expect to be slightly higher)

I would consider an arts or science supplement, but I am artistically challenged and am not very strong in the sciences either.

Would some kind of supplemental essay be too much? What about linking them to my blog?

Here’s the first of a couple of articles from elsewhere on CC that address being deferred/waitlisted (Dave Berry indicates the strategies work for both):

Also take a look at this post in last year’s ED thread from VirologyNerd, who was accepted after being deferred during ED1 (read her comments at the bottom of the post):

I was deferred and then accepted for the Class of 2014, don’t lose hope!

I sent a Letter of Continued Interest (which was just an email…), another letter of recommendation, and i also mentioned a couple of awards I won after I sent my application. Oh, and keep your grades up second semester!! It helps!

Good luck, Pomona is an amazing place.

If you have any questions - feel free to ask! :D
