I was deferred yesterday. Are there people who don't get into Cornell Ed that get into penn cas rd?

Yes, there are people who are deferred by Cornell ED and who get into Penn RD.

Although one might argue that Penn is harder to get into than Cornell overall, there is not stratification – many get accepted by Penn and not Cornell. FWIW, many also get into Harvard, Yale, Princeton or any other school you care to mention but not Cornell.

Finally – and most importantly. Many are deferred from Cornell ED and accepted RD

I’m sorry about your disappointment, but in the end, I’m sure you’ll find yourself at an excellent school. Good luck.

@zephyr: Can you please post the link of a reliable source that mentions that ED Defers were actually accepted in RD. I’m getting anxious cuz I got Deferred from CoE & so I want to know did they actually accept people in RD.

Penn took about 45 less EDers this year to save more room for those rejected at some other Ivys like Yale and Princeton because of SCEA. Just some info :)

Any Idea about Cornell Defers?

i know a girl who had legacy at cornell and got rejected ED, then got into upenn cas regular. honestly she was qualified for cornell and i’m not sure why she didn’t get in, but there you go! a success story. she was upenn class of 2010 though, so a few years back.

USApplicant

I’d recommend searching old threads here, I know that I’ve seen several ED Defer/RD accept posts. I personally know of one or two who fall into this category – not a large sample, though.

I don’t think that official stats are released.

Some obvious advice – first semester grades will be important, and a strong showing can improve your chances. Notifying the school of any additional awards is a good thing too.

my high school friend got rejected from cornell but got into dartmouth and penn. Although this is kinda random and rare (cuz dartmouth is more selective than cornell), things like this happen all the time. college admissions is kind of crapshoot, so don’t think that getting deferred or rejected at cornell will mean that you won’t get into other good schools.

That said, if you like Penn then apply RD absolutely. I would apply to quite a few more schools too just in case. best of luck, and don’t freak out about getting deferred.

thanks guys. im in california so im lookin at berkeley, ucla, and usc as well as brown, penn, dartmouth, wustl, vanderbilt, and emory.

if i was from california, i’d rather go to usc or ucla over cornell. if you want to end up working in nyc after college, cornell is the way to go. if you like LA and want to live there, go to school in that region. Many USC girls are absolutely gorgeous, and it has an amazing weather. Enjoy!

thanks. i’ve lived in LA for 10 years so i was hoping for a change in atmosphere.

I was deferred as well casblancama. USC, UCLA, and Berkeley are some of my top choices! I need a change of atmosphere from the freezing Northeast haah
