I was deferred at GT with 33 ACT, 3.9 unweighted, 4.4 weighted gpa and in a lot of ap classes. I’m in sports and clubs as well, any idea of what my chance is getting in at the reg decision date? Thanks.
same here. 34 ACT 4.0 GPA, many sports, clubs, leadership etc. I am OOS, I don’t know if that makes a difference.
Decision: Deferred
Major: Computer Engineering
ACT: 33 comp 35 M 31 E 34 R 33 S
Essays: Decent
Recs: Good
GPA: All A’s (lowest grade is 94)
AP’s: 4 AP and 2 DE-- 6 in total (I transferred to my current high school in the middle of 11th grade and my previous school (located in another country) had nothing called “more rigorous classes”. Everything was on-level there.)
Junior Year:
A.P. Psych (I made a 106 on it- 99 without the 7 A.P. points and 5 on the AP exam)
Senior Year:
A.P. Chem
A.P. Comp. Sci.
AP Calculus AB
College English 1101
College English 1102
I am in-state.
I am an Asian (Indian) Female.
ECs: I am a part of the Indian Cultural Club in our school. I compere/anchor for different professional programs hosted by TANA (Telugu Association of North America).
Leadership: I served in the school cabinet in my old school in one of the highest ranks available (Prefect In-charge). I do not play sports for my school.
Awards:
I took prestigious exams like:
Australian Chemistry Quiz (by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute)–Got a distinction
Unified Cyber Olympiad–Ranked 167 nationwide in India
Reasons why I think I was deferred:
- Most of my AP’s or DE classes (5/6) are in senior year, which means that they cannot see my performance in those classes for EA. So, I think that they wanted to see how I am able to take those classes at the same time and maintain my grades.
Fall 2015 grades:
A.P. Chem-- 93 + 7 = 100
A.P. Comp. Sci.-- 96 + 7 = 103
College English 1101-- 95 + 7 = 102
Acc. Pre Calculus-- 97 + 7 = 104
- My GA Tech counselor does not know that I have been chosen for the opportunity to intern at the Georgia Tech Research Institute (1/3 interns chosen from Fulton County), for I got this opportunity in late December.
32 ACT(35 E, 32 M), 10 AP’s, 760 BioM SAT II, GPA was a 95/100, no class rank, AP Scores were 4’s some 3’s, 5 AP’s senior year, EC’s and major awards consisted of a ton of art stuff, being an art teacher, volunteering, clubs, hosting non-profit religious events, Asian in-state female
I did apply for a couple of competitions and have applied for an internship (which I think I’ll obtain)
@CHCollege123, I hope you get accepted. However, you should’ve strategized better by choosing a different major that would’ve guaranteed your admission, environmental engineering for instance which contains a relatively lesser competitive pool. Computer science practically constitutes the toughest applicant pool in almost every engineering programme across the country. And Indian applicant pool will typically be extremely highly qualified. You’ll have an opportunity to switch majors once you get admitted i suppose? Perhaps you could call them up and ask them to list environmental or civil on your app? Be shrewd. Be wily. whatever happens, I hope you get in.
@rahuilmars231 Thanks for the positive vibes and the piece of advice! However, some of my extra-curriculars and my essays are based on my major. So, if I change my major right now, all of those would be meaningless. They have asked me to update them with any latest updates from my side. I have decided to mention my internship at Tech.
Also, did you get into your dream school?
@CHCollege123, you’re welcome
And my dream schools are reach schools so I’m not exactly pinning my hopes on Harvard alone. I hope I get in, but even if I don’t, Ill cry myself out for a few days but I won’t tailspin into chaos. It ultimately boils down to how well you do in college, no matter what college that is. Having said that, I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Who wouldn’t want to stand witness to their dreams materializing?
@CHCollege123 - Gtech does not admit based on your major… Admission office has put up three different blogs discussing the application process. http://pwp.gatech.edu/admission-blog/ It discusses the inherent uncertainty of a holistic admission process.
do you want to create progress through service tho?
