Deferred from Georgia Tech

So I’m a high school senior and I just found out I got deferred from Georgia Tech, my top choice, today. I want to major in computer science (Georgia Tech College of Computing). Here are my stats:

4.07 Weighted GPA (*Earned an A+ in AP Computer Science)
2190 SAT (710 math, 750 critical reading, 730 writing)
740 Math II subject test
Numerous extracurriculars (American Legion Boys State graduate, made an Android app for a local carnival, etc.)

Now Georgia Tech is asking for my mid year grades for senior year. Currently, I’ve had straight A’s in literally every class (averaging an A in AP Calculus BC, AP Physics 2, etc), except for an online AP Economics course, in which I’m currently averaging a D (I’ve had trouble handing in assignments on time, and the online class environment makes this worse). This is literally the only thing I can think of that can adversely impact my chances for admission, but I’m worried that a D will especially stick out since I got straight A’s in every other class.

Do you think this one class will cost me admission to GTech? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances? I’m assuming that the college will find my situation particular bizarre considering my performance in all my other classes are stellar; it’s not like I’ve gotten senioritis or anything. I was wondering if I can send a note through my counselor explaining my situation in the economic class or something. I appreciate the help!

Can you drop the class?

No unfortunately I can’t… our high school has a policy that you cannot drop a class 2 weeks into the year… I began to regret taking the course in October but by then it was already too late.

Was the d your final grade for the semester? Wait until your final grades come in before reporting the grades.

You can probably explain that in the deferral supplement form - also good luck!! Computer science is really tough to get in to at tech
