Deferred at Stanford....What to do?

I was deferred from Stanford's Early Action Program....I have pretty good stats, but I don't feel like posting them all...Since then I've raised my SAT's a whopping 70 pts (2240-2310). What kind of stuff do they like on the update form for deferrees?

any new awards, accomplishments, etc. Actually you should be pretty pleased. Many schools will defer just about anyone they don't accept EA/ED, but not Stanford. They reject plenty in that round. So if you made it this far it means you really ARE on the bubble and things could go either way. This is where having a savvy counselor can really help; a good counselor will contact stanford and see what addt'l info might be useful such as another rec, mid-term grade updates, etc.

Mid-Term grades or any big time scholarships you are up for, will get you in.

Thanks for the posts--kind of keep my spirits up...I am up for a few scholarships and my mid-term grades have kept up as straight A's (although my rank went from 1 to 2 because of some stupid technicality). My counselor already contacted Stanford and all they said to do was to fill out the update form. Also, I got a likely admittance letter from UVA...do you think I should put that in my update form?

bump bump bump.....

lol DanJH i got deferred from Stanford also, got straight As at midterm, and my rank went from 1 to 2 because other #1 took an additional AP class while I took an elective. Srry, I know its irrelevant but looking at your post it made it seem like i was reading an autobiography. strange, lol...

no
Why would u tell them that u got in elsewhere??????

bump....I really need some advice here, I have to fill out this form but I'm not sure what to put on it...There really haven't been any competitions in the last few months, and I don't hear from scholarship people for a while...

I don't think you can do much at this stage... Last year I was deffered and I sent them a letter saying why I wanted to go to Stanford and a list of new accomplishments (which included National recognition) and I didn't get in but I know of someone who didn't even send the update form back and they got in. I think it's just going to come down to what they are looking for and if there is a certain geographic region/race/gender that is under represented they'll use deffered people to satisfy that stuff. I don't know what to tell you but good luck!!!!!!! Don't put UVA for sure because then it might seem like it doesn't matter if you get into Stanford. I hope you get in! Congrats for getting this far!

Thanks! I do come from a fairly rural area...So I guess I'll cross my fingers that only a few rural people apply. But other than that, I'm afraid I'm a typical white male math type...nothing too unique...thanks again for the encouragement..

Once more a bump

don't tell them about UVA, send them an enlightening update(keep it short) and hope for the best

Telling them about an acceptance from another school isn't exactly the best thing to do. Just give them a recent list of accomplishments you've done. That can't hurt.

If you have done anything valuable with your time even if you have nothing to show for it, I think that could be valuable. Fun and uncommon hobbies wouldn't hurt, although I'm not saying to lie or try to discover some rare activity at this point.

Just send them everything that's changed and be sure to throw in a few convincing lines about why you want to go there; reaffirming that it is still your 1st choice is a good idea as well.

And get that update out soon you are running out of time!

bummmmpppp

bump bump bump
