By the way, is anyone else having trouble fitting the new activities in your update form?

c'mon now. 79 views and not a single response? anyone?

You have an OK chance. Please remember that Stanford, contrary to most Ivy League schools, does not do "courtesy" deferrals. If you were deferred during the SCEA round, it means that you will be given all due consideration during the RD round and that you have a chance. Good luck!

Okay, thanks! Any other opinions?

yeah, you probably have a decent shot and I echo what MSMDAD said.

U have a MUCH better chance than I do of getting in...I dont think U have anything to worry about...im just confused as to why U werent accepted in the first place...

Bear in mind that, unlike most schools, Stanford only defers students who it believes stand a good chance of being accepted during RD round (it rejects a majority of non-acceptees, which was the case at my school, where two Stanford rejects would likely have only been deferred had they done early to other top schools). So that already bodes well for you.

What did you send in after getting deferred?

Hm, your numbers and such are right on target for Stanford. Your ECs are great, breadth and leadership positions and whatnot. Your other accomplishments are great, too, but your awards and honors are a little weak (the "top student" awards seem awesome, but they don't show a whole lot to the adcoms about you). So why'd you get deferred? Here're my two cents:

You don't show a passion/focus for anything. If you did show a specific passion for something, as complemented by ECs and awards, you'd probably get in.

The excellence of your app, I think, is what got you deferred; if you weren't that stellar in those other areas, you'd probably have been rejected outright.

You might get in, since your app is still pretty awesome. But I wouldn't be surprised if you got rejected for lack of any apparent passion for something.

I definitely see your point, and that is what I fear as well. In my long essay, I talked about how I saw my sister endure a traumatic brain aneurysm when I was in fifth grade and struggle through physical therapy, and how that experience talk me the vital lesson of never taking life for granted, seizing each day, etc. I had such a hard time with this essay, and I'm afraid that I didn't relate who I am, but rather who my sister was. :( I can pm my essays to you, if that will help. I have so many interests and passions, that they might just look at me and think, "He doesn't know what he wants." :(

Edit: O yeah, did you get a kick out of the fact that I want to be a Chem major, yet scored way higher on the CR section? haha, I laughed when I saw my score, too. :)

hmmm... I guess I didn't have a shot, after all. I got flat out rejected... :( O well. I talked to the Stanford rep who just visited my school, and after I introduced myself, she immediately knew who I was and exclaimed, "Oh! It's so nice to finally meet you!" That kind of surprised me. But anyways, we got to talking, and she said I did everything right, and she's "sure I have some great choices. It was a really competitive year, and they only had 2400 spots with an application pool of over 24,000" -that whole speech. And even though I could have been angry at that generic, impersonal tirade, I was actually relieved to hear it from her. She was the one who read my app the most. She knows who I am. For the first time in many years, I am free of this overbearing stress and anxiety; I am free of Stanford. Though I did make it sound like I was planning on transferring, inside I was letting go. She was right - I do have some great choices. Stanford just isn't where I was meant to be, at least for now. We'll talk about transferring later :)

Wow, that's pretty cool that she knows who you are. That shows you were a competitive applicant and they probably had to review your app a few times. So-close-yet-so-far sorta thing, perhaps.
