the thing is, MIT doesn't seem to like my school very much. for the last few years, nobody has gotten into MIT, even though we usually have about 2 people go to Harvard every year. it may have something to do with the fact that the girl who set her dorm on fire and killed herself in 2002 was from my high school. but that is just speculation =/

i also got into Caltech, which is a good school, but i don't want to go all the way to California. however i am applying to Harvard, Yale, princeton, stanford, columbia, and Penn regular decision and am wondering if you could chance me for those as well. thanks!

Hmm a guy from my school (3rd fastest rubicscuber in the world) got deferred from caltech and accepted to MIT.. And he had average grades, unlike you. I think you have an excellent chance at all of them. Keep your senior year strong! :)

thanks! - bump.
what do you think of this

okay well my school has 6 people, princeton has 3, yale has 3 and chicago has 4 that go every year from my school (for the last five years) and MIT generally gets 1.

this year NO ONE got in early to stanford or yale or chicago and only that one dude got into MIT..

I got deferred as well and I think that your fire-girl situation may have an affect on you. If it does, then that just means that you'll probably be good enough to get into HYPS :)

are you sure its 1 from MIT swoooooop??

Excellent standardized test scores, good grades and EC's, you have a good shot at all of these school, but you can never tell since its a crapshoot.

California is way better than you'd think. The weather is gorgeous all year round, so caltech might not be a bad option for you. The weather itself is worth going for

You are a genius. I envy your genius-ness. I highly doubt that you will not get into any school you want.

bay-area-- you live in the yay area and you're saying that the weather is good? are you kidding me?

Have your counselor call MIT and ask why you were deferred. It will give you insight and allow you to beef up your applications to other schools. The bottom line is the vast majority of those deferred will not get in. It's best to emotionally move on and put your efforts into your other apps.

mmm california weather is nice

actually hmom5, last year the admission rate of deferred was about 3% higher than that for regular decision. however, unless your senior grades drastically help your application, i doubt they will look at you THAT differently.

nevertheless I would still argue that these schools are selecting all of the URMs and once-in-a-lifetime geniuses for EA and waiting for us above-average-but-not-COMPLETE-genius kids in RD.

for now you can't really do much so hmom5 has a good point that just do what you can with your other apps!

good luck!

the weather is great up here.. the only bad part of the year is the winter and it doesnt even compare to the east coast's winter. We get 75 degrees all year round

Swoop, at 3% above the RD rate the vast majority of the deferred do not get in.

well of course but it seemed like you were saying that as if it were especially unfavorable.. i mean the vast majority of people don't get in anywhere if you put it that way :/

HYPS not so great chances

Columbia and Penn you're in =)

hey thanks for the responses...california is nice but it's so far away! lol. i'd like to stay nearer to home...and good to know about the deferred RD acceptance rate! gahh MIT =P

Great scores, nice GPA/Class rank, and good EC's. You have a good shot at all of those schools, even if they are a crapshoot.

Chance me please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/621725-took-risk-blew-any-hope-left.html

would having my GC call really get answers?
can anyone give me some percentages? or like...low-reach, high match etc.? hmmm

thanks for the responses
