Collegekid, did Fordham change anything online via your Application Status check (not my.fordham.edu)? My friend from last year said that his Application Status checker said that they were awaiting Midyear grades when initially they weren’t.

I was wondering the same… I just logged into my status checker and saw that my midyear grades are due. That wasn’t the case a week ago. I haven’t gotten any letters in the mail, but have I been deferred?

I checked online today too and saw the change in status = to an X next to Mid Year Grades. I haven’t received anything so assumed that I was deferred.

You definitely seem overly qualified. My friends with slightly higher stats than you received the Dean’s scholarship, so I’d imagine that you’d at least gain admission. Maybe the program that you applied to is really competitive? Perhaps you should contact admissions and ask what you could do to strengthen your application in the short time frame that you have.

You’re making it seem like I think lowly of Fordham.

I’m saying that Collegekid clearly exceeds the profile and I too would be shocked if I were deferred considering I had a competitive application. Sure, there are some things that he could improve on. But overall, Collegekid has a pretty competitive profile.

However, there are a multitude of reasons why people get deferred. Some people get deferred with 2200 SATs and 4.0 GPAs and no one really knows why. Good luck to you in the RD file.

I was deferred, I thought for sure I would be rejected with a 3.1 and 24act but oh well i was also accepted to Syracuse. is this truly an honor or do most people get deferred?

Only a few get accepted in EA cycle. Fordhams overall acceptance rate is around 42%, after all is said and done in April. But of that 42% a very high percentage are kids in the top 10-15% of their class and are in the upper 1/3 of the SAT profile, meaning most kids are north of 1250 (1850-1900). Some exceptions do occur for a variety of reasons.

Its true that a 4.0 and 2250 SAT guarantees nothing…at Fordham and many top tier schools.

If you are deferred your mission now is to 1. finish this semester with the highest grades you can muster and submit them. 2. convey to Fordham your TRUE interest. 3. Fix anything you can, perhaps even another try at the SAT. 4. start IMMEDIATELY to look at your real match and safety schools based on your profile. Not your dreams or attitudes, but real profile. Find schools where you are CLEARLY in the 50th percentile of accepted students scores. Apply to them before the January deadline.

Fordham takes kids off the deferral list and get another swipe at the RD session. Who that is depends on a matrix of factors.

If you are merely using Fordham as a safety and dont intend on attending regardless, do the right thing and convey that to Fordham and make a spot for someone who REALLY wants to attend. Like all schools, Fordham wants kids who truly want Fordham.

If deferred dont count on being taken RD, but keep your chin up and smile on and do your best, while focusing now on your match schools. Wait until April 1 and then look at all your options and pick the school best for you.

Admissions may be quirky, but with your stats you had every reason to consider Fordham a safety. I don’t blame you for being shocked. My guess is that your deferral was due to either Tufts syndrome (in which case a letter to your Fordham admission rep stating that you would attend if accepted would resolve the matter) OR the program you applied to really is that competitive.

So is it safe to say… If you applied early action, and checked your application status online and it said “mid-year report form” that you were probably deferred.

I applied back in the first week of November.

Fordham could be a reach but I thought I would be accepted because of how much I volunteer, work, and be a mentor to younger students. (referee, coach, peer leader, etc.)

Again I want to stress that our deferral need not be based on assumptions. I think the stress and anxiety is really getting to us and we’re just taking everything as a sign, haha.

IAmMarc: Hopefully, we get a letter or some kind of email to confirm what our decision is in the next week. I am really interested in Fordham and its frustruating when so many people apply as a safety when many might not even be considering Fordham…

Although, after following this thread and the 2013/2017 thread, it is safe to say i have made myself go CRAZY!

Yes, hopefully! The thing is, it’s so weird if THIS many people have gotten deferrals considering all of us high-achieving kids on here. Of course, I’m just being overly optimistic, but still.

I should be focusing on Finals right now instead of this forum… hahaha.

Well did the people who were accepted see mid year grades listed on their portal? That would certainly answer the question we are all wondering about.
