Deferred - Essay

I put a lot of work into my Common App essay, but it's sort of intricate and I'm worried that it isn't clear after just a first read, and so I'm not sure if I should edit it some more for my other apps.

Anyone fancy a gander?

PM it to me… I’ll read it if you want.

same with mine. I think its one of the reasons for the deferral =S

I’ll read it. PM it to me, please.

sure…pm me

i’ll critique it

my essay was blase when i submitted my yale app. its gotten better since. too bad were not allowed to resubmit! seems unfair, since we’re considered in the RD round, yet the RD deadline hasnt even been reached!

^yesssssss

It’s not unfair, it makes perfect sense. Every single applicant has exactly one chance to submit his or her application. Why should deferred candidates get a second chance to get the application right when nobody else has that opportunity? I’m sorry you guys were deferred, but the policy as it stands now makes sense.

^ I think you’re looking at it too rigidly. I think applicants should be allowed to submit a slightly revised version. Obviously, submitting an entirely new essay is out of the question, but the admissions office should accept new versions of the essays originally submitted. In fact, most colleges do this, just not Yale.

^seriously?? which colleges allow you to submit revisions?!

I can’t name any specific colleges, but I asked a bunch of people and I almost always got a response along the lines of “Oh yeah, my friend who got deferred from X just contacted X’s admissions office and they let him submit a revised essay.” I’ll look into it and get you some specific names.

How do we go about telling Yale about awards and all that stuff since our deferral? I don’t get how to tell them anything besides the midyear report and new possible SAT scores.

You write a letter and mail/fax it to them. I spoke with an admissions officer, and she stated that sending things by email would take longer for them to be processed/filed and so fax is the better option.

I’ve been wondering about the same about my own essays. I can give you feedback on your essay if you want, if you’re willing to read over mine.

What is this thing you call “fax”? I have never heard of this “fax” before.

lol.

wait, yale doesn’t let you submit revised essays?! what?!

lo l

i can give u feedback :)

If you are still in need of feedback, I could give it a read. My essays were complex but they got me into UChicago and Georgetown EA.
