Has anyone ever heard of a school asking for end of year grades after HS graduation? My D applied to Central Florida and the status update says to send her grades at the end of the year..Why not just deny her then? All her deposits are due May 1 so she cant wait that long to pick a school...Why would they want info from the end of the year?

I thought all schools did that, they'll withdraw an acceptance if you did very poorly after getting accepted.

Most colleges and universities require a copy of the final transcript after HS graduation. And, yes, every single year some students get the boot because they slacked off in their last semester. Tell your daughter that she has to keep the grades up for the rest of the year and things will turn out just fine.

Yes, most (if not all) schools ask for this.

No No you guys are not understanding me (my bad I must not have explained well sorry)..she has not been accepted...they are deferring a decision until the receipt of her end of year grades

Oh, okay. That doesn't make sense. Are you sure it's not the deferral is until they see the end of the first semester grades?

positive, they got her first semester grades anyhow here is what it says
I have never heard of this..waitlisted yes but not this?

Status:
An initial, official, transcript has been received. Please request that your high school send an official, final, copy after high school graduation to the Admissions Office, P O Box 160111, Orlando, FL 32816-0111

Call the school for clarification

I will tomorrow...its strange though, that is for sure...

I would have your daughter call, not you. It's her application, her responsibility (a lot of schools don't like when parents call...from the mouth of an adcom)

Just my opinion.

ok I will have her call thanks

It sounds like they sent you the wrong canned message.

yeah who knows momofwildchild...maybe she got in and they want her transcripts after graduation which is standard altho Im not holding my breath...

What does it say above the "the intitial, official, transcript has been received?" My D was deferred at UCF and above that saying is "You are deferred to give you the opportunity to improve your test scores..." - obviously her test scores are too low for OOS consideration and she has the opportunity in the next few months to bring them up and an admission decision will be made again.

Does it state why she was deferred?

Does it state why she was deferred?

Actually it doesnt state she was deferred..I just gathered that from the response under the status..It doesnt say anything above the status like your D's test score message...I dunno what to make of the whole thing...

I think the OP has misinterpreted the status. All the status means is we have your interim transcript, and if we accept you we will need a copy of your final transcript.

But a quick phone call to admissions can clear this all up.

Ok MomfromPA, you said there is nothing at the top of that page so it seems they haven't made a decision yet. Once UCF receives the transcript the document status reads: "An initial, official, transcript has been received. Please request that your high school send an official, final, copy after high school graduation to the Admissions Office, P O Box 160111, Orlando, FL 32816-0111. " Then, underneath that is "test results" and they list the test scores.

If they reviewed the file, they would have put a status on that same page at the top. Right now, my D's says:

A decision has been deferred to allow you the opportunity to earn competitive test results by retaking the SAT or ACT. This is your current status. Your status is subject to change at any time depending upon receipt of new information and further review by the Admissions Committee, and may be confirmed in writing via a letter from the Director of Undergraduate Admissions.

Also you may want to post questions in UCF's CC forum. There are parents and students who post there.

It sounds as though they aren't going to make a decision about her enrollment until she takes the SAT or ACT again and shows improvement. Maybe that's what they mean? Did she maybe not get as high as the school would like on standardized testing and they're giving her another chance?

Once UCF receives the first transcript there is always the message to send a final transcript whether you are deferred or not.

I agree that there has probably been no decision on this one, the decision is still pending and the transcript request is standard. If there is a deferred decision, it is usually more specific as to what the student can do to try to change their status.

Have your student call to clarify if there is a decision or not yet.
