Deferred from NC state

I was deferred from NC state and I am actually very surprised. I applied for the genetics major and my second choice is human biology. These are my stats:

ACT: 29
SAT: 1320 (new)
3 APs: APES, Psych & Calc
Mostly honors classes
I made one D and one C my first semester junior year, all other grades are A’s & high B’s.
Unweighted GPA: 3:57
Weighted GPA: 4.36
My GPA should go up after this previous semester.
I am also involved in BETA, HOSA, Hands helping others, environmental, and student council clubs
Are there any suggestions on how to make my
chances of getting in after the deferral any higher? I found out my SAT scores were never sent so I already sent those last week after I received the deferral. NCSU is my top choice and I will do anything to get in. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Those junior year grades are hurting you. Definitely send mid year grades.

The teacher that I made a D in offered to write a special note specifying why I did so badly in their class. I was absent a lot due to repeated illness. This was only first semester. Second semester I missed 4 days and got all A’s. Should I bother having her write the letter?
