Okay, so I was deferred from my top school, University of Michigan. I was accepted to Western Michigan University however so that’s my backup. So, the plan currently is to audition for UMich’s dance team March 23-27th, without knowing if I even got into the school. What are the odds of me actually getting accepted from being deferred to UMich? I really want to go there and I’m afraid I won’t be accepted. My senior year grades (what they asked for for additional information) were straight A’s (AP and honors classes being B’s reflect as A’s in GPA) so I had a 5.0 GPA.
Michigan does not use HS weighting, they use the letter grade on a 4.0 scale. All B=3, all A=4 etc. But if you are in-state and had a good ACT/SAT, you have a very good chance of acceptance. If you are applying to SMTD the GPA is a little lower than the Michigan average, and the auditions mean a lot. Deferral is very common in EA, in the past legacies and very strong in-state applicants were the primary recipients of early acceptances.
Best of luck to you, and hope you have a great audition! Make sure you let the admissions office know that Michigan is your first choice and you will enroll immediately if accepted.
Do you think that if I do well at the auditions that it could help the admission process? It’s just dance team it’s not for the dance major. I am out of state, maybe that’s why I was deferred. Should I email the admissions office and let them know that or call? Thank you so much for replying to my post!
The dance team auditions would not have any impact on your admissions result, it is completely separate from admissions. I don’t think an email to the admissions office is warranted as the dance team isn’t related to their final decisions of acceptance, wait list, or reject.
^That’s likely right but, I don’t see how it could hurt you to tell your regional admissions rep your continued interest enhanced by your dance team audition.
I find out if I got in the school end of March, early April. But guess what, they don’t tell me if I made the team until after I enroll and commit completely to UMich. I’ll be heartbroken if I get in and don’t make the dance team.
I hope you make it too. We went to the women’s big 10 BB tournament and the Michigan dance team (and cheer squad too) was BY FAR the best one we saw.
