Im above the 75% of admitted students in every category of the sat sections, above the 75 for act and the uop average uw gpa is a 3.6, my uw gpa is 3.9. I've taken many ap and honors courses, I've done many hours of community service, several extracurriculars. People with stats way lower than mine are getting in with scholarships. Things just don't make sense to me :( this is devastating early in the admission process because I feel like at this rate I'll be stuck going to a community college. I've worked so hard the past four years for it to come to decisions like this.

Call and ask, maybe it was a rare mistake or something

Sometimes they deny overqualified candidates (referred to as tufts syndrome by some) to keep their matriculation rates and their stat ranges in tact. You might have just been on the wrong end of this practice this time.

Do not do this. This could jeopardize your chance to get in when regular decision comes around.

College admissions are wacky, and often have no rhyme or reason. The subjective parts of your application are important too. You could have had weak essays, ECs, and/or Recs as well.

Maybe they had a lot of other candidates very similar to yourself. ED people tend to be high achievers which is why they think going ED will be a shoo in. Don’t forget that college would be very boring if all the students in a given class were all super smart, interested in the same clubs, all engineering majors, etc. The college is trying to put together a diversified cohort. Hang in there for RD decisions. You will end up at the right school for yourself -

i ended up finding out today that i’ve been admitted to top with a $10,000 annual regents scholarship for the next four years so maybe they were just debating whether to give the scholarship to me it or not.

I was deferred and then accepted around 2 days later.
