I just heard back from University of the Pacific and I was deferred. I go to highschool at a college prep school in Long Island. One thing I noticed, is that when looking upon old emails, I did get an email from UOP saying I didn't visit the campus and that I should do so. I plan on visiting soon. Could this have played a role in my getting deferred and will it make a difference if I do visit the campus?

And has anyone else heard back gotten accepted, denied, or deferred? Their acceptance rates are lower than some of the other schools I applied to, but their standardized test scores are lower too. Is this a difficult school to get into and what are the chances of getting in if deferred.

Thanks for any answers in advance. Best of luck to other students considering this University.

I’d hate to be the party pooper, but in other threads I’ve read, “deferred” at UOP is almost always a nice way of saying “rejected.” They send deferrals to a lot of applicants who just miss the cut. They MAY send you a subsequent letter of acceptance down the road, but don’t count on it, as it might not come until well after you’ve signed a statement of intent to register at another school, if it comes at all.

Oh bologna. I got deferred and am in the process of sending them my updated transcripts. It just means theyre unsure of your grade history most likely. If you didn’t have the SATs to make it they would have rejected you by now. I made a 4.0 the beginning of my senior year, so thatl probably sway them to acceptance. Hopefully you did better your senior year also, it helps!!

UOP isn’t the end of the world. They’re are plenty of other colleges and you can always transfer. Keep your head up and keep in touch with their admissions office.

While UOP is “deferring” people, they are also still sending out emails begging kids to apply! My S is one of them; he got an email last night from UOP. The school is not one he is considering, though he did tour it a year ago. NYyankee, why don’t you CALL the school? Talking to a human in admissions might help a lot in terms of demonstrating your interest in UOP. Private schools often look for “demonstrated interest” from applicants, and the distance is a tough thing for you in terms of visiting.

I applied late, 11 days after the deadline (Jan 27) and just got accepted. Defers could still result in an admission, so don’t give up! But I would also look into other schools.

***, how could touring the school change your status from deferred to accepted? LOL.
I don’t think visiting the school will change anything.
I think you should just wait for their reply, e-mail them. They do message back quite fast.

Also, they say that your major doesn’t matter but it does at UOP. From what I’ve known pre-dental and pre-pharm are reaaallly hard to get into. My major was Communications. (I got accepted).

Congrats to everyone accepted! I have also been deferred. can you guys please post your stats so that i can size up my chances? I’m really worried.
