Hey.. it's been a month after many of us heard the bad news! deferred! yes it sucks... but I think Im starting to get over it... Penn continues being my 1st choice but Im starting to think that my dream of studying at Penn is becoming far from real. Now Im starting to picture at other universities... c'est la vie. Is anyone feeling the same?

I hope this feeling will not be reflected in the letter cause I still want to attend.. but; 10%?? arrrgh!

not the same here.
you nned to look at the stats. rd round only accepts 13%. it's not that much different.

Yes, I have pictured myself at Univ. of Michigan and UNC Chapel Hill. I think I'll be happier at either of those schools. I will be the smartest of the bunch in those schools, enabling me to get into Harvard Law or Harvard Business.

Dulce, it is just as hard to be a top student at Mich and UNC as it is to be a top student at Penn. The top 100 students of class at Mich and UNC are just as strong as the top kids at Penn and even HYPSM, but the instate tuition and/or other scholarships were too nice to let go. You will have more offers for jobs if you are an above average kid from Penn compared to an above average kid from Mich (unless we're talking Ross vs CAS). Also, unless you are in a special program like Shipman's, you will not get the type of counseling you will have at Penn or any other top private college.

Agree with venkater. There are LOTS of smart kids at those top state schools. The range of student ability is probably greater but it isn't easier to be at the top especially because they offer highly competitive merit scholarships and other financial advantages over elite privates (at least UNC does).

oh boy, you hear that guys? harvard's the best law school. oh ja. Gee, i wish i could go to Harvard law school!

its about time i get crackin on my letter >< and yea, its just as hard to be a top student at a state school like UMich as it is at Penn. Especially if its one of the distinguished programs (engineering and business). And btw, Penn CAS is world renown, so don't knock it! But meh, engineering all the way! :)

How many letters? My RD told me that "a letter once every three weeks to a month is sufficient". Do they expect me to send a letter every month then? T_T I wouldn't mind, considering how much I want to go to Penn. I think I'll leave it to just one...

i dont know good question

I really don't think they want you writing to them on a regular basis unless you have something new and important to report. One medium length letter is good to show that you are still interested, but I think writing every 3 weeks would only backfire - they will conclude that you are an overeager pain and that's not who they want. They want people with "expressed interest" who they think are likely to matriculate (this helps their yield stats) but they don't want people who are obsessive, so you have to walk that fine line. I think some of the people who did not get in despite having good stats may have "wanted it too badly" and this came thru in their app and not in a good way. You don't want to overidentify with a place that has not yet picked you so if your CC name is "whartonordeath" or somesuch you maybe have to tone it down a little.

Yeah I'm just sending one letter and its a page long. I'm sending it by mail instead of email.
