Deferred Now What?

PennHunter: haha, i was deferred. i wouldn't have planned on sending one if i had been rejected. although..the temptation would definitely have been there. thanks though =)

i started my letter tonight...i'll probably send it within the first week of jan.

could someone answer my question about the additional rec please?

gahhhh. sometimes i wish i had been rejected. at least i'd KNOW!!

Last year, only 12% (159 kids) of deferred people got accepted in the RD round. I know 2 of those people and they were both legacies.
Just a fyi.

yea thanks dulce. that information which you've repeated about 234234 times is really helpful. thanks for the insight =D .. my lord.

anyway, I heard that Penn wants to file all of the RD stuff first and then get to the deferee letters, etc. So I think I'm going to send it like the second week of January... Seriously, unless you find out in february like PennHunter, you can take your time.

joanna: if that extra rec can really say something amazing about you (something that the adcoms couldnt see before), or can really present you in a totally different light, then i dont see why not. though if its just going to be a repeat of the other 3(?) recs, then theres really no point. i guess just...use your judgement?

Joanna, I think I'm sending in another rec. as well. I figure if I end up getting rejected in April then I'll regret not sending it.

are you guys taking any extra courses outside of school?

no, I have no time

same as pennhunter, I like to enjoy life...even outside of my AP classes :P

IB has taken over my life cringes

So about the letter to Penn after being deferred, how long should it be/shouldn't be? I'm sorry if this question was answered in any of the last 11 pages of this thread, x_x but as I am writing my letter at the moment, just thought I'd ask. How long are all of yours?

hey PennHunter, I applied to LSM/College and I was deferred. I was really optimistic about my LSM essay, but SAT scores were not really outstanding. Do you think you can get into dual/joint degree programs with good essays (and mediocre SATs)?

I think that is what got me deferred and not rejected. My Act wasn’t the best but I had the best essays my English teacher had ever read and (they were about my life and challenges in my life.) But Yes, I think you can still get into the dual degree. I have heard different things from my ad cons about it. Beth downing said I was bumped down to my single degree option and then was deferred from that. And then the dean of the nursing school who is in charge of the dual degree said I was deferred from everything. I don’t know what to believe, Beth downing was in a really ****y mood when i called her that day, but i know for a fact that the nursing dean really likes me. So I am bouncing your question off of me with another question.

dahliaandpearls - the letter shouldn't be too long. It should be around 1/2-1 page...

bump bump bump bump bump

Oh good. I'm slightly hopeful now. The dual degree programs ARE extremely competitive and I guess it boils down to SAT scores when everyone has outstanding essays. I'm currently improvising my deferral letter. Would it be wise to send another rec from a teacher? I dunno... I talked to several alumni and they said that unless it says something different from the other recs, its better not to.

okay this is probably a stupid question, but...do you address your letter to your RD or "to whom it may concern"?

I'd rather address it to the University admissions committee :)

I have a question. Can I restate specific reasons as to why I want to go there, or should I leave to how I'm still interested?

I said both

ahh i still have to do the letter too. but gah so swamped with work :[

obsession over penn would mean a great deal, don't you think, xiao? Well, meh.
