Wow... thats not good... what I dont like bout my school is that the "bump" of ap classes is (88/class ave)(your grade)=final grade, therefore the worse the others do the better for one, so competition is fierce, and when competition is fierce, everyone do really good and there´s no bump. This has made other people to have a much higher GPA by taking easier courses and I have a so so GPA taking the most rigorous course. This year I just did pretty good dont know why, apparently I work better under stress (SATs + Apps + APs + ECs= arrghh)

At my school, the added points to your gpa for an AP is the numeric value for your grade (A=4.0, B+=3.5 etc.) times .04. Our school is also pretty tough with grading. Last year (my junior year) no one had straight As. (one kid came close with all As and a B+ and then it was downhill from there.)

i just got a phone call from beth downing.
i almost feel like being deferred is a polite rejection now

Hunter, you can still get in. Just hope that no other guys from Kansas apply to nursing.

Hunter: I just got a call from my RD too. What did they say that made you feel like it was a polite rejection? :(

did they call you on their own accord, or did you request them to or something?

yea, I'm curious to hear what Beth said..

all post it, hold on, i need to get ready to go to my ap chem final study session.

I said what do you think my chances are if I submit strong Supplemental info. and she said the admit rate after being deferred is 12%. Then she said I think that should address all of your qustions and had to say yes. I hung up and called my GC in a panic. ;')

btw she also said i was rejected from the dual degree and deferred from nursing. I had heared someone (beths secritary) different previously that they defer your whole app. I dont know but i am stressed.
so a white male from kansas deferred from nursing. (i must be awful)
another thing i asked was why was i deferred what part of my app was weak. she said. she said their were entire app that were better.
i feal like **** now. god i want in so bad

I called my RF today in the morning... the secretary told me she would call soon without asking for my phone number or anything... I just came from school and reiveid an email from my RD... it's pretty long and I don't know how to interpret it. At the beginning I felt it was a polite rejection, then I felt it was more personal, but now the overall impression is that it is a generic letter.

PM if you want to reader and would like to help me to interpret it!

^ read it, sorry

Hunter: Aww, I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I really want to get in too. My RD sounded impersonal (he didn't really remember my app I guess) but he was really supportive. And when I asked about how my app was weak, he just said that there were a lot of people in the ED pool, and it was just sheer numbers and limited space in the round.

My best advice to you (+ after talking to the RD) is make sure you have stellar grades to send in, an extra recc couldn't hurt, and if you think it would make a difference, send in the supp. info too. But make sure you do a damn good job on your other apps too.

hunter and everyone else, dont give up hope. i've heard of triple legacies from magnet schools with amazing GPAs/SATscores and tons of hooks who still got deferred/rejected. in my school there were several kids who....arent exactly academic/athletic superstars that did get in. it drove me insane trying to figure out why certain kids got in over much more qualified ones. but i guess we all have to realize how random this whole process is. getting deferred, or even ultimately rejected from penn isnt a sign that we're failures at life. if we werent meant for penn, im sure there are alot of good schools out there that would LOVE to take us. haha -_-; or so i hope.

on another note. i called my RD today. i think her response was pretty generic: write a letter, send in grades, ED pool was competitive. i compared the phone call with a few people i know with the same regional director and it looks like she gave the same generic response to everyone in my region. that might...not be a good sign.

i think we just buged the ***** out of our reps today and maybe thats why they were nasty and kind of down on us. well i need to be working on the best letter i have ever writen in my life. thats what beth said to do god.
i am going to flip hamburgers if i dont make it in

mine is supposed to call me on Thursday, so hopefully she will be helpful

cheer up guys :] even though i know thats extremely hard lol cause im pretty down too. lol i feel so homeless by not being in college like other people xT.
and what do you mean by letters? what can you say in them

ur basically supposed to write a letter to ur regional director/admissions office telling them that ur still interested in penn and that penn is still ur top choice and w/e. its kind of like a second shot at why penn. i guess it'll set you apart from the RD kids. make sure you mention any awards/honors u might have received or any significant improvements. theyre going to keep this letter in your file to be read when they review you again.

when are you mailing your letter? Should it be in by Jan 1st along with other RD applicant stuff?

yea just to be safe. though i dont think it'll be too bad if its even a few weeks late. they started looking at ED apps after thanksgiving right? so when do they start reviewing RD apps?

so many other essays to write though! i think i'll finish them first and then do the letter..

Guys, you got it all wrong. The reason why I would call right now instead of on the Friday of decision week is because that the first couple days after decisions consists of angry parents calling admissions and yelling at reps. They really want you deferees to call, but don't do it too early or you get nothing out of it.

I believe all of Penn closes on Dec. 20, so make sure you call right now if you are a deferee or wait all of the holiday until you can take action (in that case, you may miss the SAT deadlines!).
