lol I know a B is acceptable...but at an elite like Wharton? I dunno

You can't explain bad grades unless something tragic happened to you (no getting deferred does not count). Anything else is seen as whining, especially when kids go through hardships and maintain strong grades.

ahhhhh RD kids infiltrating CC. im reading these new threads and thinking "ha, i went through that 2 months ago" but yea, somehow i get the feeling its probably better to be RD than ED deferred. 12% versus...21ish% RD?

i dont understand, if you're put into the reg. pool when you're deferred, so aren't you part of the 21% thats let in if you're deferred than admitted?

i read this book called an a for acceptance after i was deferred i will try to type the chapter on it tomorrow.

I read it too... but someone here in CC told me that it was pretty outdated.

did you read the part on deferral and how the ad con pick liker her top 5 to present instead of giving everyone a chance

i have my ap chem final in the morning i need to get some sleep but i need you all to respond first.;

yep, it sucks...

what? :T akjdakjdkasdfkadf, apparently i cant leave a post thats less than 10 characters? xT

She picked only 5-8 applicants out of the 25-30 she usually has. Deferred applicants are divided again by regions and thats the number her region usually have. She picked only those because they had either stellar senior grades, higher test scores from january, or awards. She says that the rest of deferrees look the same as in ED, and even worse compared to the RD pool. I think this explains why theres such a low rate for us deferred people.

oh my god that's going to drive me crazy!!

I really really really really hope it's not just academics!!!@@@$@#$@#$23423

The rd acceptance rate is closer to 14-15%. Last year the College RD acceptance rate was 13%, and it will probably only drop this year because of the common app.

bump>>>>>>>

Deferred almost always means nice rejection. There are some people who get in RD, but who knows how much they donate to Penn, or why Penn deferred them in the first place. If Penn is still your first choice, write them a letter telling them so. However, do not count on getting in, and work furiously on those other apps this next week. There are so many stories of people getting into Harvard but rejected by Penn. Try to make yourself one of those people.

where do you get your info from?

I really have not said anything concrete. Deferred is a nice way to put rejection because it gives you a slim amount of hope that you will get into Penn. However, only 12% of those deferred last year got in, and no one really knows why they were deferred or what they did to get in RD. Everyone recommends writing a letter when you are deferred or waitlisted. On CC I have seen stories in the Parent's forum about kids who are rejected from Penn and get into better colleges. I know a girl who got into MIT but not Penn. It happens. Just move on at this point.

bummmp.

yayyy one more day till winter break for me!

I don't know exactly why I got deferred :(

I've been to National Championships as an artistic gymnast, was the head gymnastics coach of a female team, I've won county awards in art, I've been playing classic piano for 8 years, I'm an IB Diploma student, I've been doing APs since 9th grade, I've lived in a foreign country for 2 years of my highschool life, my dad used to work at UPenn, I'm a dedicated volunteer at a hospital emergency room, as well as volunteer with an orphanage and I've been selected for conferences regarding peace talks over Kashmir.

:*( Not really sure how to enhance my application any further at this point. Suggestions? I'm redoing SATs and hoping to get really good mid-year school grades of all 7's. But what else can I do?!
